Job Summary
This senior role leads and embeds Canada Life UK’s digital marketing strategy, owning the web front end across UK sites and shaping web infrastructure, content and journeys for priority audiences.
The role holder will:
- Upweight digital channel contributions and plan for digital transformation
- Set and track clear performance targets
- Manage digital teams and budgets
A data-driven digital strategy will be defined to boost Canada Life’s reputation, revenue, partnerships, and market impact.
Key responsibilities include close collaboration across corporate reputation, propositions, people experience, internal communications, marketing, IT, and global GWLE digital teams, delivered by someone with proven leadership experience in digital marketing in financial services and a strong customer focus.
What You’ll Do
Lead Digital Engagement Strategy and Web Experience
- Own and evolve Canada Life UK’s digital engagement strategy, including web front end for all UK websites
- Define infrastructure, user journeys, and content in partnership with the marketing team to improve engagement, conversion, and satisfaction for priority audiences
Drive Digital Transformation, Capability, and Planning
- Lead development and implementation of digital strategy and annual plans in collaboration with the Head of Marketing Operations
- Upweight the contribution of digital channels, platforms, and tools (SEO, marketing automation, personalisation)
- Design a programme of digital marketing training and technical support to build capability across the marketing function

Own Digital Performance, Insight, and Optimisation
- Set clear KPIs and performance targets for all digital activity
- Ensure robust tracking, analysis, and reporting
- Translate insight into optimisation plans to improve channel effectiveness, ROI, and customer outcomes
- Provide regular updates to senior stakeholders
Lead the Digital Team, Resources, and Budget
- Manage and develop the digital marketing team, ensuring right structure, skills, and ways of working
- Own digital budget and resource planning
- Prioritise activities to deliver maximum strategic and commercial value
Stakeholder, Supplier, and Technology Leadership
- Lead relationships with key stakeholders, IT, and external suppliers for cost-effective, scalable digital solutions
- Act as primary interface with IT for marketing technology
- Oversee external technology and platform providers
- Ensure governance, risk management, and compliance across all digital activity
Who You Are
Technical Expertise
- Proven leadership experience in a senior digital marketing or e-commerce role, including digital transformation programmes
- Strong track record of customer-insight-led digital strategy that grows traffic, conversion, engagement, and leads
- Expertise in SEO/SEM, PPC, email/database marketing, and organic and paid social media
- Experience in content marketing and associated technologies (CMS, analytics, marketing automation)
- Data-driven decision-making, with advanced analytics and data utilisation
- Experience with content management systems, ideally Umbraco, and understanding of web UX, tagging, and measurement
- Hands-on experience working with IT delivery teams and digital/software vendors to implement and optimize digital platforms
Communication
- Ability to explain complex digital concepts, data, and performance insight in clear and concise terms
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to present digital strategies, business cases, and reports at a senior level
Relationship Building
- Experience managing third-party suppliers, digital agencies, and vendors to drive value and quality
- Ability to collaborate with IT and cross-functional teams to align priorities and deliver integrated digital solutions
- Capacity to build credibility and trust with senior stakeholders to influence digital investment and strategy
