Senior Digital Specialist - Azure Cloud Engineer
It’s not every job where you make a difference for the people of Scotland. But it’s what’s behind every job here.
Our work keeps Scotland’s water flowing - from reservoir to tap, and from sewer to treatment plant. Behind the scenes, we’re transforming how we do it, building smarter systems, stronger digital foundations, and making cloud the heart of it all.
We’re looking for a Senior Azure Cloud Engineer to help shape the platform driving our digital future - reliable, robust and adaptable to the needs of our people and communities.
What You’ll Do
This role is about much more than keeping systems up and running - it's about engineering secure, scalable, and resilient cloud solutions in Azure that power essential public services. You’ll be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising Azure infrastructure to meet both the current operational needs and future growth of our services.
- Building and configuring Azure landing zones
- Setting up networking and security
- Ensuring that our cloud platform adheres to best practices, ensuring it’s both reliable and ready for the future
- Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to make sure the solutions you develop are fully integrated, aligned with business goals, and driven by a clear cloud strategy
Additionally, you’ll:
- Drive continuous improvement across the cloud infrastructure, applying the Azure Well-Architected Framework to ensure the platform’s high performance, security, and cost-effectiveness
- Mentor colleagues, share cloud best practices, and help to raise the overall cloud maturity across the teams

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
