Job Summary
Iron Mountain is hiring a motivated Senior Director, Global Payroll to join our Global HR team. In this role, you’ll provide strategic leadership and expertise overseeing payroll operations for 30,000 employees across 56 countries, spanning Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and North America.
Reporting directly to the Vice President of HR Service Delivery, you’ll drive transformation through artificial intelligence and automation, optimise global payroll operations, and deliver results in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Global Payroll Transformation
- Lead and influence progress for the next phase of the Global Payroll and Time transformation roadmap.
- Deploy AI agents, robotic process automation (RPA), and middleware API integrations to build an exception-free payroll ecosystem.
- Foster a digitally empowered payroll operating model.
Compliance & Governance
- Formulate and enforce global payroll policies while ensuring:
- Accuracy of financial information and strong compliance with:
- Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX)
- Regional data residency laws (e.g., General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Personal Data Protection Act, Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados)
- Digital tax mandates
- Accuracy of payroll processing to the lowest possible audit risk level.
- Accuracy of financial information and strong compliance with:

Total Rewards Integration
- Collaborate with Global Benefits, Total Rewards, Finance, Treasury, and Legal teams to:
- Design and maintain integrated end-to-end data flows for global benefits, equity, and allowances.
- Oversee merger and acquisition (M&A) payroll integration.
Vendor Ecosystem Management
- Oversee the final phase of a multi-year vendor consolidation initiative, transitioning all remaining countries onto a single outsourcing vendor solution (Strada).
- Performance management to guarantee top-tier service delivery.
Leadership & Team Growth
- Lead, coach, and upskill the global Payroll delivery team by:
- Transitioning traditional operational Payroll team members to focus on:
- Process management
- Data analytics
- Continuous improvement across remote, culturally diverse, and matrixed teams.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Extensive leadership experience in global payroll with direct accountability for managing payroll operations across:
- 25+ high-growth, multi-national markets
- Profound knowledge of:
- Global payroll regulatory environments and digital compliance mandates
- International tax treatments and worker classification guidelines (e.g., IR35, EU directives)
- Payroll financial accounting and data handling
- Proven success, demonstrated through:
- Spearheading large-scale global payroll transformations, particularly the creation of a Global Payroll Center of Excellence (COE)
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting (or equivalent)
- Certification:
- Professional payroll certification required
