The Opportunity

Title: Senior Director, Global Payroll Location: Europe (remote) Department: Global HR

Iron Mountain is seeking a skilled Senior Director, Global Payroll to lead transformative initiatives within our growing team. You’ll provide strategic direction, operational excellence, and innovative leadership for payroll functions across 56 countries spanning Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and North America—covering approximately 30,000 employees. Reporting directly to the Vice President of HR Service Delivery, this role is critical in driving digital transformation, compliance, and scalability in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.


What You’ll Do

As Senior Director, Global Payroll, you’ll drive impactful change across these key areas:

1. Global Payroll Transformation

  • Define and influence the future phase of Global Payroll & Time transformation.
  • Deploy AI agents, Robotic Process Automation (RPA), and live API integrations to create an exception-free payroll ecosystem.
  • Leverage technology to optimise operational excellence and efficiency.

2. Compliance & Corporate Governance

  • Formulate and enforce global payroll policies, ensuring:
    • Accuracy of financial information
    • Strict compliance with:
      • Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) frameworks
      • Regional data residency laws (GDPR, Privacy Act, LGPD)
      • Digital tax mandates

3. Total Rewards & Integration

  • Collaborate with Global Benefits, Total Rewards, Finance, Treasury, and Legal teams to:
    • Design, develop, and refine integrated data flows for global equity systems.
    • Manage payroll spectrums for M&A transactions.
    • Automate accounting intelligence to reduce transaction times.

4. Vendor Ecosystem & Consolidation

  • Lead the final phase of transitioning payroll for remaining geo-countraites into a single vendor platform (Strada).
  • Oversee vendor performance to deliver exceptional service standards.

5. Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and upskill the global Payroll delivery team, transitioning operational roles to investments in process management, data analysis, and strategic improvement.
  • Build a culture that thrives in remote, cross-cultural, and matrix working structures.

What You’ll Bring

We’re seeking a strategic leader with:

  • Proven experience (10+ years) in global payroll leadership, accountable for multi-national payroll operations across 25+ countries.
  • Extensive knowledge of:
    • International compliance and regulatory environments
    • Digital tax mandate, data confidentiality, and fraud risk
    • Regulatory standards, including IR35, EU Directive frameworks, and cross-border finance classifications
  • Demonstrable track record of leading large-scale global payroll transformations, including:
    • Establishing a Global Payroll COE, automating accounting functions, demonstrating high accountability.
  • Educational background:
    • Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting (or equivalent).
    • Professional Payroll Certification is mandatory.
  • Exceptional executive presence: Ability to translate technical compliance into actionable strategic guidance.
