Senior Director, Cloud Engineering (UK or US)

How You’ll Make an Impact

We’re searching for a Senior Director, Cloud Engineering to steer Travelport’s next-generation platform across cloud engineering mission-critical components. This role demands mastery of AWS environments, large-scale deployment systems, and expertise in setting up conditions for AI products to thrive in scale.

Your responsibilities:

  • Lead a cloud engineering capability for AWS, focused on defining our infrastructure, production platform, and enabling development/product teams to leverage it.
  • Implement infra-as-code, real-time account management, and automated pipelines while prioritising observability, resilience, operational coverage, and cloud cost control.
  • Partner closely with AI, data engineering, and high-scale product demand planning to ensure our technology adapts to Tomorrow’s challenges today. Key considerations: AWS Bedrock, secure AI adoption, and responsible production deployment.
  • Champion platform simplification, operational excellence, and operational scaling to support future platform innovations while managing product migration pipelines to AWS.

Your Role in Action

System Leadership

  • Forge the AWS cloud engineering strategy, emphasising automation, resilience, security, and cost-aware platform advancements.
  • Establish engineering standards for:
    • Infrastructure as code (IaC)
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • Account management and guardrails
    • Developer enablement

Operational Excellence

  • Overhaul platform operations to prioritise:
    • Observability
    • Efficiency in incident response
    • Reliability
    • 24/7 support coverage

Growth & Strategy Alignment

  • Collaborate directly with Product and Commercial teams to plan for customer commitments and platform capacity demands.
  • Partner with data and security teams to design AI workflows, secure data lakes, and execute production GenAI solutions responsibly, reliably, and cost-efficiently.

Cost & Strategic Challenge

  • Implement cloud cost management via KPIs, engineering, and strategic AWS financial investments.
  • Simplify platform cogs by removing inefficient complexity that obscures progress, increases risks, or inflated cloud spend.

Key Requirements

  • Proven success as a cloud/infrastructure leadership, steering engineering roles on high-scale AWS systems.
  • Hands-on expertise in:
    • Distributed systems
    • Infrastructure as code (Terraform/IaC experience is valuable)
    • Automated deployment pipelines
    • Cloud security frameworks
    • Observability and operational resilience models
  • Cost and capacity management at significant scale.
