Senior Discovery Consultant
Salary: £40,000–£50,000 per annum
Location: Remote (with occasional customer travel)
Job Type: Full-time
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced and customer-focused Senior Discovery Consultant to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in IT infrastructure, datacentre discovery, and CMDB integration who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and working closely with customers.
You'll lead the implementation and optimisation of enterprise discovery solutions, helping organisations gain accurate visibility of their IT estates while ensuring high-quality CMDB data. The role combines technical expertise, consultancy, project delivery, and team leadership, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both hands-on engineering and customer engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Discovery Solutions
- Design, implement, configure, and optimise enterprise discovery solutions.
- Work with customers to automate the discovery of datacentre assets and infrastructure.
- Configure discovery tools to meet customer requirements and business objectives.
- Integrate discovery platforms with CMDBs to establish a reliable, accurate source of asset data.
- Develop custom scripts and enhancements to extend discovery functionality where required.
- Create dashboards, reports, and insights that enable customers to maximise the value of their discovery platform.
Technical Consultancy
- Gather and document customer requirements through workshops and technical discussions.
- Advise customers on best practices for discovery, CMDB management, and ongoing operational processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve discovery coverage, automation, and data quality.
- Troubleshoot authentication, connectivity, and discovery issues across complex environments.
- Analyse discovery results and recommend improvements to increase asset visibility.

Project Delivery
- Lead discovery implementation projects from planning through to successful delivery.
- Coordinate with technical teams and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Translate technical concepts into clear, business-friendly language for a variety of audiences.
- Support and mentor Discovery Consultants on larger customer engagements.
Operational Excellence
- Monitor discovery performance and resolve issues affecting successful asset discovery.
- Identify unscanned or partially discovered assets and improve overall estate coverage.
- Support CMDB audits and data validation activities to maintain high-quality asset information.
- Follow established IT service management processes, including Incident, Change, and Problem Management.
Skills & Experience
We're looking for someone who brings a combination of technical expertise, consultancy skills, and leadership experience.
Essential
- 8+ years' experience implementing, configuring, and supporting enterprise discovery solutions.
- Strong experience with platforms such as ServiceNow Discovery, BMC Discovery, Lansweeper, or similar technologies.
- Excellent understanding of datacentre infrastructure, servers, virtualisation, networking, and enterprise environments.
- Strong knowledge of discovery protocols including WMI, SNMP, SSH, WBEM, and related authentication methods.
- Experience integrating discovery tools with CMDB platforms.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, particularly around network connectivity and discovery failures.
- Good scripting or programming skills (such as PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, or similar).
- Experience producing customer documentation, solution designs, and technical presentations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Desirable
- Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- ITIL Foundation or similar ITSM knowledge.
- Discovery platform certifications.
- Experience with application dependency mapping and service mapping.
- Previous consulting or professional services experience.
- Experience leading small technical teams or mentoring consultants.
