Job Specification: Senior Document Controller
Sector: Defence
Location: Derby (Midlands) — 3 days per week on site
Grade: Senior
Salary: £50,000 inclusive of car allowance (£46,000 basic + £4,000 car allowance)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Document Controller to join a major defence sector programme based in Derby. This role requires three days per week on site, with travel and accommodation provided for candidates who are not local to the area.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing document control processes within a secure environment, ensuring information is accurately maintained, tracked, and compliant with programme and regulatory requirements.

- Manage the end-to-end document control process, ensuring documents are correctly logged, distributed, and version-controlled
- Administer and maintain the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS), specifically ViewPoint
- Ensure document metadata is accurate, complete, and up to date in line with project and client requirements
- Produce regular reports on document status, outstanding actions, and KPI performance
- Liaise with project teams, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure timely submission and approval of documentation
- Maintain document registers, filing structures, and audit trails in accordance with information governance standards
- Support internal and external audits, ensuring full traceability of documentation
- Coordinate document workflows across multiple teams and disciplines, ensuring deadlines are met
- Uphold strict confidentiality and security protocols

Essential Requirements
- 8–10+ years' experience in a document control role, ideally within a defence, engineering, or major project environment
- Proven experience using ViewPoint (or similar EDMS platforms)
- Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, UK Security Clearance (SC)
- Must be a British National (sole nationality requirement for this role)
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical, organised approach
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines
