A little more about your role…
The increasing threat of climate change has heightened the risk of flooding, impacting local communities. To strive and mitigate this risk, we are collaborating closely with our Local Government clients and stakeholders in South Wales.
We're seeking a passionate and experienced Drainage Engineer to join our team at a time of significant growth, helping to deliver sustainable drainage, flood alleviation and coal tip remediation projects that create safer, more resilient communities for the future.
We are committed to preserving the quality of life in our local communities, particularly in the valleys of Rhondda Cynon Taff, Merthyr Tydfil, and Bridgend. If you are passionate about sustainable urban drainage, have a proven track record in design and are eager to lead the management and delivery of civil engineering projects, we want to hear from you.
You will thrive in a multi-disciplinary environment, working closely with ecologist, infrastructure, geotechnical, structural engineers. If you’re looking for a role that combines technical challenges, strategic oversight, and direct community impact this could be the job for you
Responsibilities:
- Overseeing complex drainage schemes from conception through to delivery.
- Quality assurance checks
- Develop drainage solutions for highway, infrastructure and site development schemes for feasibility, planning, tender, detailed design and construction support stages of the project.
- Design of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) with good knowledge of relevant current standards and guidelines and contemporary environmental solutions to manage land drainage.
- Responsible for the health, safety and welfare of you and team members.
- Take responsibility for your own personal development and the development of others.
Your Team
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in our Communities business, focused on the delivery of services to Rhondda Cynon Taff, Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Councils. The successful start of a new contract in April 2025 and the increase in service requests for drainage work and flood alleviation means that the Infrastructure Drainage team needs to expand.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
