The Role
As a Senior Observability Engineer (Associate Director), you will spearhead the enterprise-wide implementation of modern observability capabilities across DTCC’s critical business applications. Your work will drive digital transformation in observability—the cornerstone of modern infrastructure.

Your Core Impact
Observability Leadership
You will lead a department founded on deep technical expertise, client collaboration, industry guidance, and innovation to build and elevate DTCC’s technology platforms.
Primary Responsibilities:
Observability Platform Adoption
- Guide applications onboarding to the enterprise observability platform
- Spearhead the migration from legacy monitoring tools to Grafana + OpenTelemetry
- Scale adoption across DTCC’s diverse application landscape to enhance observability at scale
Automation & Enablement
- Design and implement automation frameworks to streamline application adoption
- Deliver self-service capabilities, including standardised templates and configurations
- Ensure consistency via reusable engineering patterns and automated governance
OpenTelemetry & Telemetry Standards
- Drive standardisation of OpenTelemetry instrumentation and semantic conventions to ensure consistency
- Enforce structured/OpenTelemetry metrics, logs, and traces across applications
- Harmonise MELT (Metrics, Events, Logs, and Traces) through automation and onboarding processes
Data Modeling & Observability Quality
- Define and enforce labelling standards and naming conventions for DTCC’s telemetry
- Support end-to-end traceability across distributed systems
- Ensure telemetry meets analytical, health, and AIOps use cases
Legacy Transition & Adoption Challenges
- Support legacy migration complexity: Education, remediation, and targeted onboarding
- Provide remediation for applications lagging on target-state observability preferences
- Coordinate remediation of critical or high-impact workloads
Data-Centric Observability
- Extend observability to data pipelines and analytics platforms (including Snowflake)
- Partner with Snowflake teams to standardise custom observability patterns
- Monitor data quality, pipeline health, and workflow anomalies
Technical Leadership & Influence
- Operate as a SrIC with impact across distributed teams in SRE, application engineering, and platform engineering through mentorship and deep technical adoption.

Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)
Talents

10+ years of hands-on experience in distributed systems, SRE, or reliability engineering
-
Deep expertise in:
- Observability platforms (Grafana, Splunk, Dynatrace)
- OpenTelemetry (traces, metrics, telemetry instrumentation tools & conventions)
- Telemetry data structuring/design (metrics, logs, traces, events)

Proven ability: Data modeling, labeling strategies, semantic standards—all to refine systems for functional usability and observability quality.

Automation expertise: Strategise and build frameworks for application adoption.

Ability to drive adoption with clear mentorship, impactful leadership, troubleshooting skills, and clear communication.

Technical toolset familiarity:
- Programming: Python, Java, SQL
- Query languages: SPL, PromQL

Experience with Snowflake or similar data platforms, finance sector observability.

Expanding knowledge in hands-on data modeling & analytics for observability.

Understanding of Grafana ecosystem (Tempo, Loki, Mimir, Grafana), plus OpenTelemetry at scale.

Familiarity with SLOs, AIOps, and observability-driven automation innovations.
