Role Overview
An established environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join its growing team in the South East. This opportunity involves:
- Working across a diverse portfolio of conservation, infrastructure, water, and energy sector projects.
- Supporting a range of public and private sector clients.
- Collaborating with specialists in hydrology, fisheries science, geomorphology, and water quality.
Key Responsibilities

Fieldwork & Surveys:
- Lead and conduct Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs).
- Perform UK Habitat Classification surveys and protected species surveys, including:
- Bats
- Dormice
- Amphibians
- Reptiles
- Otter
- Water vole
- Birds

Technical Reporting:
- Produce high-quality ecological reports (PEAs, EcIAs, Environmental Statement chapters).

Project Management:
- Manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely, budget-compliant, and high-standard delivery.

Business Development:
- Contribute to tender preparation.

Team Support:
- Mentor junior team members.
- Share ecological knowledge and support wide-ranging survey projects.
Requirements
Core Qualifications
- Degree in ecology or a related discipline.
- Strong ecological consultancy experience, including:
- Project management.
- Client-facing responsibilities.
- Membership (or eligibility for) CIEEM.
- Strong botanical and habitat survey skills.
- Experience writing ecological reports and leading protected species surveys.
Essential Technical Skills
- Protected species licence.
- Full UK driving licence (travel to South and South East, including occasional overnight stays).
Desirable Skills
- GIS mapping experience.
- HABITAT Regulations Assessment (HRA) familiarity.
- Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) experience.
- European Protected Species licensing knowledge.
- Mentoring junior ecologists.
