Purpose & Scope of the Role
You will deliver ornithological advice and project management within Tetra Tech’s national ecology team. Your focus will include:
- Contributing to surveys, impact assessments, mitigation design, and client liaison
- Working across residential, defence, energy, infrastructure, and government sectors
- Leading multi-season bird surveys (winter, passage, breeding seasons)
- Supporting Habitat Regulations compliance
- Reviewing technical reports
- Collaborating with planners, engineers, and other specialists to ensure ecological outcomes are integrated into project delivery.

Core Capabilities
- Survey Design & Delivery: Lead robust winter, passage, and breeding bird surveys across diverse landscapes, including wind-farm contexts.
- Technical Reporting & Review: Produce and critically review clear, defendable ecological and planning-stage reports.
- Project & Client Management: Oversee budgets, schedules, and client expectations; deliver projects on time and to deadline.
- Mentoring & Team Development: Coach junior ecologists, share technical expertise, and contribute to in-house training programs.
- Cross-disciplinary Collaboration: Integrate ornithological input into multidisciplinary projects and support business development.

Training, Qualifications & Experience
- Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
- Strong consultancy experience in ornithology.
Required:
- Membership of, or eligibility for CIEEM (Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management).
- Full UK driving licence and legal right to work in the UK.
- Proven ability to deliver multi-season surveys.
- Experience managing projects of similar scope.
Advantageous:
- Additional species expertise beyond core ornithology.
