Senior eCommerce Program Manager

Overall Purpose of the Role

To own and drive the end-to-end eCommerce programme roadmap for a high-growth, Multi-Million+ online retail business, ensuring the successful delivery of all strategic, commercial and operational initiatives. This role acts as the central coordination point across the eCommerce function, translating commercial objectives into executable programmes including international expansion (Europe), platform development, customer experience optimisation, and revenue growth initiatives.

The role ensures paced delivery, managing risk, cost, and performance while embedding best-in-class programme management discipline aligned to leading multi-channel retailers.

Direct Reports: Likely matrix leadership across Product, Tech, Trading, Marketing, and Operations.


Main Duties and Accountabilities

Programme Leadership & Delivery

  • Own the eCommerce programme roadmap, prioritising initiatives focused on revenue growth, margin optimisation, and customer experience
  • Lead delivery of complex, cross-functional projects, including:
    • EU market entry and international expansion
    • Platform development and integrations
    • Trading, pricing and promotional capability enhancements
    • Customer journey and conversion optimisation
  • Ensure all programmes are delivered on time, in scope, and within budget

Commercial Ownership

  • Translate business strategy into deliverable plans with clear ROI, cost control, and measurable KPIs
  • Collaborate closely with Trading, Finance, and Commercial teams to ensure programmes drive sales, margins, and customer lifetime value
  • Maintain strong financial governance across all initiatives

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the central point of coordination across eCommerce, Technology, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Customer teams
  • Build credible relationships at a senior level, acting as a key decision-making interface
  • Provide clear, data-led reporting on programme performance, risks, and delivery milestones

Governance, Risk & Controls

  • Establish and maintain programme governance frameworks, ensuring clear accountability and decision-making
  • Identify and proactively mitigate risks, minimising disruption to trading performance
  • Ensure compliance with operational, legal, and regulatory requirements (particularly for EU expansion)

Operational Excellence

  • Drive a culture of delivery, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Introduce best-practice programme methodologies (e.g., Agile/hybrid)
  • Improve speed to market, efficiency, and scalability of eCommerce operations

Team & Capability

  • Lead, coach, and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority
  • Build internal capability in programme and project delivery
  • Support succession planning and talent development

Key Performance Measures

  • Delivery of programme roadmap (on time, in budget, in scope)
  • Revenue growth and contribution from delivered initiatives
  • Improvement in conversion, AOV (Average Order Value), and customer journey metrics
  • Successful launch of new markets (e.g., EU expansion)
  • Cost control and ROI achievement
  • Stakeholder satisfaction and delivery confidence

Person Specification

Essential

  • Proven experience in senior programme/project leadership within high-volume eCommerce or online retail
  • Strong commercial acumen with a clear understanding of revenue, margin, and trading drivers
  • Experience working in scaled eCommerce businesses (£400m+ ideally), with exposure to marketplace or omnichannel environments
  • Demonstrable experience delivering complex, cross-functional programmes at pace
  • Experience of international expansion or multi-market eCommerce
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at Executive level
  • Highly data-driven with strong decision-making capability
  • Ability to operate in fast-paced, high-pressure environments with competing priorities
  • Strong governance, risk management, and delivery discipline

Desirable

  • Background in automotive or retail product-led businesses
  • Experience in platform transformation/replatforming programmes
  • Knowledge of eCommerce technologies (e.g., OMS, PIM, ERP integrations)
  • Formal programme management qualifications (e.g., MSP, PRINCE2, Agile)
