Senior econometrician / scenario modeller — freelance contract
Remote · Immediate start · Contract
We are sourcing on behalf of a leading global strategy consultancy currently engaged on a major assignment for a global FMCG client. They need a highly experienced, hands-on econometrician or senior data scientist to join immediately on a contract basis.
The work:
This is not a standard MMM role. You will be contributing to an innovative economic scenario modelling methodology — plugging in forward-looking demand shocks (such as the impact of GLP-1 drugs on consumer behaviour) and modelling effects on revenue, volume, and category dynamics. The work requires deep understanding of how marketing spend and distribution variables interact to drive demand.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What we're looking for:
- Proven track record building economic scenario or structural demand models — not just historical attribution
- Strong grounding in marketing mix modelling and the role of distribution in FMCG demand
- Hands-on experience with Monte Carlo simulation, Bayesian modelling, or structural equation modelling
- Comfortable working in Python or R
- Background in FMCG, CPG, food, beverage, or alcohol strongly preferred
- A practitioner first — this role needs someone who builds and runs models, not one who directs others to do so
