About Our Team
The Lancet Global Health is part of a globally renowned network of medical journals dedicated to publishing ground-breaking research. Our small, collaborative team handles a high volume of submissions while delivering a personalised service to the world’s leading researchers. The Senior Editor will work alongside Senior Editors, a Deputy Editor, and the Editor-in-Chief to guide the journal’s direction.
You’ll:
- Review some of the world’s best research
- Collaborate with global authors
- Engage with experts in technical editing, production, marketing, communications, and administration
About The Role
This part-time, fixed-term position focuses on ensuring the scientific excellence and impact of the journal. You’ll be responsible for:
- Leading the acquisition, peer review, and publication of high-quality research in your subject area
- Making independent publication decisions with expertise and editorial judgement
- Commissioning and handling special project content
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships within the global health community
- Representing the journal at conferences and staying ahead of developments
This role blends scientific expertise, editorial insight, and strategic influence—building a future for global health research.

Shortlisted candidates will complete editorial tests before an online interview with two journal representatives. Flexible adjustments are available to support accessibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Identifying and engaging expert peer reviewers for submissions
- Commissioning and overseeing special reports, commentaries, and key content
- Cultivating and maintaining links with global health researchers, institutions, and stakeholders
- Representing the journal at conferences, events, and conference panels to:
- Highlight emerging topics
- Identify potential contributors
- Stay updated with current trends in global health
Requirements
- A higher degree (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant discipline, such as:
- Public health
- Biomedical sciences
- Health policy
- Substantial experience in scientific research or the health development field
- Previous editorial experience with strong knowledge of:
- Overview of journal publishing processes
- Understanding of peer review and manuscript decision-making
- Exceptional critical analysis skills to assess rigorously and inform high-impact decisions
- Deep commitment to equity in health and healthcare and ethical publishing practices
- A proactive, solution-oriented attitude
