Senior Editorial Writer

The Role: Senior Editorial Writer
The Senior Editorial Writer sits within the Brand team in London and plays a vital role in building a more editorial-led content function. This position exists to define and deliver high-quality storytelling, ensuring Howden communicates sophisticated ideas clearly and consistently.
It supports the transition toward a newsroom-style model, setting the benchmark for editorial excellence as this function continues to scale.
Responsibilities
- Own the editorial strategy: Develop and execute high-quality editorial content across multiple channels and formats, including long-form, short-form, video scripts, and digital platforms.
- Define editorial storytelling: Build and refine the business’ editorial approach, ensuring content is engaging, clear, and rooted in tangible outcomes.
- Story Identification: Uncover and develop compelling narratives across the organization, collaborating with teams to surface insightful, meaningful stories.
- Technical Translation: Simplify and communicate complex technical and business concepts in accessible, compelling narratives.
- Collaborative Content Creation: Foster positive relationships with partners across marketing, communications, and the wider business, ensuring cohesion in content development.
- Cross-Channel Campaigns: Contribute to multi-channel initiatives, integrating PR and earned media efforts.
- Consistency in Content: Garner editorial quality and relevance globally and regionally, aligning messaging across audiences.
- Process Optimization: Help develop workflows and mechanisms to enhance content planning and delivery.
- Social Media & Digital Collaboration: Work closely alongside social media and digital teams to elevate content quality—Editing, refining, and enhancing copy as needed.
- Editorial Leadership: Champion editorial standards across Howden, setting a clear benchmark as the function grows.
- Clear Briefs: Develop or refine ambiguous or evolving briefs, ensuring clarity and practical execution.
- Function Growth: Support the development of the editorial function, contributing to future team expansion.

Requirements
Experience & Qualifications
- Relevant Background: Proven experience in editing, reporting, or content creation, particularly in sophisticated or B2B environments.
- Content Production: Strong ability to produce high-quality content across formats and channels.
- Technical Communication: Experience converting complex ideas into accessible narratives.
- Campaigns & Outreach: Experience contributing to coordinated campaigns, including media relations, PR, and earned media strategies.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Demonstrated capacity to lead and influence diverse stakeholders and adapt to incomplete or evolving briefs.
- Strategic Alignment: Skill in linking content to broader business goals or campaign objectives.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experience working with social media and digital teams to refine content delivery.
- Degrees:
- Desirable: A degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, or a related field.
- Preferred: Significant editorial, journalism, or media content experience.
