About the Role
The UK water sector is entering a transformative period of unprecedented investment. Egis is building a high-performance EICA (Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control Automation) Engineering team to shape the future of water infrastructure. You will deliver major water and wastewater programmes in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, contributing to technically robust, sustainable, and innovative treatment solutions.
This is an exceptional opportunity to join at a critical stage in Egis' UK growth. You’ll play a key part in establishing, shaping, and expanding the firm’s EICA capability, leveraging its global infrastructure expertise and long-term commitment to the sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead defined discipline tasks or design packages across phases including feasibility, optioneering, concept, outline, and detailed design.
- Prepare, check, and coordinate technical deliverables, including:
- Calculations
- Specifications
- Reports and schedules
- Drawings and models
- Design philosophies
- Take accountability for assigned work packages, managing:
- Technical quality
- Interfaces, scope, budget
- Programme, and change
- Conduct site visits, surveys, data reviews, and hold technical discussions with clients, operators, suppliers, and contractors.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces, supporting integrated MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing)/treatment design while ensuring operability, maintainability, and constructability.
- Apply digital tools, modelling, and automation (e.g., process simulation, hydraulic modelling, dashboards, or automation*(**) to enhance delivery efficiency and design quality.
- Support CDM/safety-by-design reviews, technical risk management, and HAZOP/HAZID inputs, as well as design assurance.
- Review supplier/contractor submissions, clarify technical queries, and assist in commissioning or handover processes where necessary.
- Mentor Engineers and Graduates, contributing to discipline standards, templates, and best-practice adoption.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- A completed BEng/MEng degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or significant CEng-level experience, with evidence of progression towards chartership.
- Typically 6+ years’ relevant engineering design experience, preferably including UK water/wastewater treatment projects.
- Proven ability to deliver discipline design packages within multidisciplinary projects.
- Strong capability to:
- Prepare and check calculations
- Draft specifications, reports, schedules, drawings, models
- Compile technical documentation
- Familiarity with:
- UK water industry standards
- CDM 2015
- Safety-by-design fundamentals
- Ability to coordinate interdisciplinary interfaces and resolve technical challenges.
- Good commercial awareness and commitment to scope, budget, and programme adherence.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to lead technical discussions and present findings clearly.
Desirable (AdditionalAssets)
- Experience in AMP8, WINEP, SROs (Single Regulator Offices), D&B (Design & Build), frameworks, alliances, or large-scale capital projects.
- Knowledge or experience with:
- Advanced treatment processes
- Sludge/bioresource management
- Nutrient removal
- Water reuse systems
- Pumping, package plant design
- Energy recovery solutions
- Automation-led operational improvements
- Familiarity with digital delivery tools, including:
- BIM (Building Information Modelling) or 3D coordination
- Process simulation software
- Hydraulic modelling tools
- Dashboards (e.g., Power BI)
- Automation languages (e.g., Python, VBA)
- Experience in FAT/SAT (Factory Acceptance/Site Acceptance Testing), commissioning, performance testing, HAZOPs, or technical assurance reviews.
- Ability to mentor junior staff and drive enhancements in discipline workflows and technical standards.
