The Role
You will lead and foster Control & Instrumentation (C&I) engineering in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, customers, and regulators, ensuring assets remain robust, compliant, and continually improved. This technical leadership role involves:
- Lifecycle Ownership: Supporting asset maintenance, change management (modifications/upgrades), and obsolescence—keeping systems relevant and compliant across their operational lifecycle.
- Regulatory & Safety Enforcement: Ensuring all designs, modifications, and operations meet stringent regulatory and safety standards.
- End-to-End Excellence: From Feasibility → System Design → Commissioning → Operational Readiness, with hands-on involvement in:
- Installation and testing
- Functional review/compliance checks
- Fault diagnostics and outage remediation

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Expertise
- Serve as subject matter expert (SME) in Control & Instrumentation systems for in-house projects and customer-defined assets.
- Foster engineering best practices across the Lloyd’s Register group.

Design & Documentation
- Develop, review, and approve all aspects of C&I designs:
- Schematics, calculations, specifications, engineering reports, and technical documentation (e.g., HAZIDs, FMEAs).
- Ensure alignment with site/regulatory standards, external technical requirements, and functional safety (IEC 61508/61511).
- Develop, review, and approve all aspects of C&I designs:

Operations & Maintenance
- Coordinate site investigations for maintenance, fault analyses, and operational readiness.
- Oversee obsoolescence management—legacy system upgrades and SOTIF (Safety of The Intended Functionality) reviews where applicable.

Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work directly with customers, project leads, and regulatory bodies to ensure cost-effective, compliant solutions.
- Engage cross-functional teams for design reviews, HAZOP studies, and engineering substantiation.

Continuous Improvement
- Mentor Junior Engineers and contribute to culture of capability development.
- Advocate for engineering excellence in operational teams to resolve challenges collaboratively.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Control & Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering (specialising in Control Systems), or equivalent discipline.
- Proven C&I engineering experience in highly regulated environments (e.g., nuclear, defence, energy, aerospace, utilities).
- Deep knowledge of:
- Industrial control systems (PLCs, Distributed Control Systems)
- SCADA/HMI platforms
- Plant instrumentation and automation trajectories
- Functional safety (SIL/PL) principles
- IEC 61508/61511 functionality documentation, FARA, and safety management.
- Ability to interpret and implement regulations, technical specifications, and safety requirements.
- Experience producing/reviewing technical documents and Engineering Design Profiles.

Highly Desirable
- Experience and interest in defense, energy, oil & gas, rail, or infrastructure.
- Exposure to plant modification and update projects in dynamic environments.
- Regulatory domain expertise, such as specific knowledge of:
- High-Hazards methodologies (HAZOP, HAZID)
- Security clearance, UK, ESA, or industrial ETP regimes.
- Maintenance/Through-Life Engineering (TLE) concepts.
Required Mandatory:
You must be a Sole UK National and eligible for Security Clearance Meeting Quest Global’s LC6-G requirements.
Desirable Technical Attributes
- Experience with:
- Simulation tools (Plant Simulation, OPC UA)
- Hardware/software lifecycle management.
- In-navelling:
- Automation tools (LabVIEW, MATLAB for control systems).
- Ferreting out obsolescence risks and mitigating their plant impact.
