Senior Electrical Craftsperson
Senior Electrical Craftsperson – Mile End Hospital & Royal London Hospital
About the Role
The Senior Electrical Craftsperson will lead the in-house electrical maintenance team and collaborate with external contractors to ensure seamless electrical service delivery within Mile End Hospital and Royal London Hospital Retained Estates, managed under Barts Health Estates & Facilities Services.
Under the direction of the Estates Supervisor or Estates Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing all electrical maintenance—including Statutory & Mandatory compliance, Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), Reactive Maintenance (RM), minor works, major overhauls, and replacements. The incumbent must be a self-starter who can work independently and lead the electrical team and contractors effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the estates electrical team and contractors to ensure all statutory, critical, and routine tasks are:
- Completed on time
- Recorded properly
- Thoroughly documented for Estates Management
- Ensure in-house electrical teams and contractors have access to sufficient spares and materials for efficient work delivery
- Identify poor performance in the electrical team and implement improvement plans
- Escalate unresolved issues to the Estates Supervisor or Estates Manager
- Review completed electrical works to maintain:
- Quality
- Timeliness
- Cost-effectiveness
- Address any issues directly with staff or contractors promptly
- Provide technical support and leadership to diagnose and resolve electrical faults
- Uphold health, safety, and environmental standards by:
- Ensuring safe systems of work
- Conducting site inductions
- Performing risk and COSHH assessments
- Collaborate with the Estates Supervisor/Manager and BHT contract performance team to:
- Support Trust electrical service audits
- Ensure full compliance across both in-house and PFI/outsourced electrical provision
- Maintain compliance with all legislation, safety alerts, HTMs (Hospitals Technical Memoranda), NBNs (Non-Boeing Notifications), approved codes of practice, and Trust policies
