Senior Electrical Craftsperson

Senior Electrical Craftsperson – Mile End Hospital & Royal London Hospital (Retained)

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Electrical Craftsperson will lead and coordinate electrical maintenance activities within Barts Health Estates & Facilities Services, ensuring Mile End Hospital and Royal London Hospital (Retained Estate) meet all statutory, safety, and operational requirements.

  • Leadership & Coordination:

    • Directly liaise and coordinate with electrical contractors to oversee day-to-day estates service delivery.
    • Manage and supervise the in-house electrical maintenance team to ensure Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), Reactive Maintenance (RM), minor and major works are completed on time.
    • Work independently as a self-starter, taking initiative where required.
  • Technical & Operational Responsibilities:

    • Ensure all buildings, plant, and equipment comply with statutory and mandatory regulations across both hospital sites.
    • Lead the team to document and report statutory, critical, and routine tasks to the Estates Management Team.
    • Maintain and distribute adequate spares and materials to support efficient works completion.
    • Implement performance improvement plans and escalate concerns to the Estates Supervisor/Manager if necessary.
    • Review completed works for quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness, resolving issues directly with staff and contractors.
    • Provide technical leadership to resolve electrical faults and safeguard system integrity.

  • Health, Safety & Compliance:
    • Promote and uphold health and safety standards for staff, patients, visitors, and contractors, ensuring:
      • Safe systems of work.
      • Site inductions.
      • Risk assessments and COSHH compliance.
    • Work with the Estates Supervisor/Manager and Barts Health Trust (BHT) contract performance team to:
      • Support effective auditing.
      • Ensure full compliance with legislation, safe systems of work, HTMs, NBNs, and approved codes of practice.
    • Adhere to all relevant legislation, safety alerts, and organisational policies.

  • Strategic Oversight:
    • Collaborate to guarantee consistent electrical service delivery across in-house and outsourced provisions (PFI/PFM models).
