Location and Hours of Work: Billingham, UK. Travel is expected as part of the role, other (worldwide) destinations as and when required. Full-time role - 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Electrical Engineer has ownership of all projects assigned to them and is responsible for meeting the respective schedule and budget of the project. Although based in Teesside, the role is a UK nationwide role and subsequently, the ability to travel throughout the UK is an essential requirement.
This Senior Engineer role requires you to lead and undertake electrical engineering design works, studies, and site surveys to gather client technical data. Types of work include:
- LV & HV distribution design (up to and including 33kV)
- Power Earthing studies
- Fault level calculations
- Protection co-ordination
- Load flow
- Arc energy calculations using industry standard software
- Transient analysis
- HV Motor starting
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- The delivery of all assigned work in accordance with company procedures, standards, and its Quality Management System within budget and to schedule.
- Production of design deliverables including calculations, drawings, line diagrams, connection schedules, and equipment specifications plus other technical information that usually result in a 'design package' suitable for sub-contract build and commissioning.
- Carry out technical investigations and produce technical reports.
- Project equipment and materials including managing procurement and carrying out enquiry bid appraisals.
- Lead engineer responsibility for technical delivery, budget, quality, and programme.
- Ordering services and equipment and expediting sub-contractor and supplier work and deliverables.
- Project lead responsibility including management of suppliers and other internal team members.
- Assist in the preparation of tender estimating and client proposals when required.
- Provide guidance and mentorship of junior team members for their development and career progression.
- Develop new and maintain existing client relationships in regard to Consultancy Engineering services.
This role is a fee-earning role meaning that weekly hours must be recorded on our time-keeping software system and that this time must be optimised in order to meet weekly utilisation targets for the role.

Actively contribute to the efficient delivery of company projects and objectives (including carrying out internal office safety and quality documentation audits) in order to provide improvements in Efficiency, working practices, and business performance. Person Specification
Skills & Abilities
The primary skill set and abilities required to fulfil the role are as follows:
- Strong focus on the understanding of project delivery and budget.
- The ability to increase knowledge and learn new techniques to assist in career progression.
- Good communication skills for internal management and external client liaison.
- Computer literate in MS Office desktop applications, company management systems, project management, and discipline-specific software (e.g., SKM Powertools, ETAP, Autocad, etc.).
- Flexibility to travel to client sites within the UK and beyond with proven experience of site investigation and data gathering.
Experience
The nature of the role requires a thorough understanding of Electrical Engineering in both High and Low voltages in an Engineering consultancy-based industry. Experience in the delivery of small to medium-size projects is required and this should include full project ownership from start to finish. You will be familiar with operating in a design environment on industrial projects with experience in the supervision of site activities including commissioning of electrical equipment. Our clients are important to us and so the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships is necessary.
As the business operates a fee-based earning-based consulting environment, your experience will be used in order to maximise your utilisation rate to meet weekly and monthly targets for the company. Your experience will include:
- Minimum of 6 years industry-related experience in the delivery of Electrical Engineering-based projects.
- A proven track record of technical involvement on EPC type capital and/or revenue-generating projects.
- Relevant experience in a senior supervisory role.
Knowledge
My client operates in a variety of different industries and sectors including Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Food, Oil & Gas, and Manufacturing, and knowledge of these types of industries along with the Regulations and Standards that govern them is key to ensuring that project deliverables are consistent with our client expectations and requirements. Your knowledge will include:
- A thorough understanding of the requirements that Electrical Engineering plays in industry including a working knowledge of the relevant standards and practices covering these disciplines.
- A minimum of Degree level in Electrical Power Engineering and be proficient in utilising software modelling packages such as SKM Power Tools for calculation and report preparation.
- Working towards Chartered Status and membership of a relevant engineering institute is highly desirable.
- The ability to undertake electrical engineering studies including site survey, data gathering, fault level calculations, protection co-ordination, load flow, transient analysis, motor starting, arc energy calculations, etc. all utilising industry standard software.
- Development/production of design deliverables including calculations, drawings, line diagrams, connection schedules, and equipment specifications plus other technical information that usually result in a 'design package' suitable for sub-contract build and commissioning.

The Senior Engineer role must be able to identify, work through, and resolve engineering issues relating to projects as and when they arise. This ability not only promotes the company's ability in the eyes of the client but also demonstrates our skills base to others. As our projects are varied and wide in their scope and technical content, your ability to solve problems will be reflected in improved project delivery by either technical improvement or cost saving. The business relies on its Engineering staff to fulfil this role as a matter of course and this aspect is crucial for continued business success.
