Description

Amazon Web Services is seeking an Electrical Engineer to become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint.

Join our global engineering team to design and innovate the electrical systems powering Amazon's rapidly expanding data center infrastructure. You'll take on multi-million dollar projects from concept through construction, working with cutting-edge equipment and collaborating across disciplines to deliver resilient, cost-effective solutions that support our customers worldwide.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. Key Job Responsibilities

What You Will Be Doing

  • Data center electrical designs and collaboration with other disciplines to create a construction document set.
  • Participating in site selection reviews and site planning activities
  • Critical Data Center equipment design including Generators, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, MV Switchgear, LV Switchgear, MV:LV Transformers, Earthing, Life Safety and Fire Detection systems
  • Design and collaborate with other disciplines to create a construction document set.
  • Creating designs which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements.
  • Working with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate electrical equipment.
  • Working with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements.
  • Working with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with IEC, EU requirements and building codes.
  • Reviewing and approval of equipment submittals.
  • Defining project scope and providing technical support for information requests prior to, and during construction phases.
  • Working with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
  • Traveling to sites for site review and work with onsite field engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup as needed.
  • Being a leader within the global group as well as within internal and external teams that support Amazon’s data centers.
  • Having fun and offering creative, out of the box solutions.

A Day in the Life

As an Electrical Engineer on our team, you'll focus on designing robust electrical distribution systems that keep our data centers running at world-class uptime. Your day might include developing design specifications, reviewing and marking up technical drawings, collaborating with cross-functional teams on equipment qualifications, conducting site inspections, responding to design inquiries, and presenting your work to stakeholders. You'll move fluidly between desk-based design work and on-site activities, ensuring designs translate seamlessly from concept to construction. You'll also have opportunities to explore new technologies and construction methods that could improve how we build and operate our facilities.

About The Team

The team consists of Electrical Engineers with Design Engineering backgrounds (typically having worked as Consulting Engineers with wide-ranging experience), many ex-electricians with a practical knowledge of the systems they are designing.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering or Architectural License
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
