Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Reporting directly to the Lead Engineering, the Senior Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the technical leadership of the Electrical Design function of the Engineering Department, providing day-to-day oversight of the delivery of electrical design services across AGS projects, ensuring compliance with applicable engineering standards, regulations, and best practices whilst mentoring and supporting team members and driving continuous growth and innovation. Moreover, the Senior Electrical Design Engineer will support tendering and procurement processes and act as a primary point of contact for key stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities

Electrical Design

  • Perform and/or manage the development of electrical EPC and ICP system designs from preliminary to detailed status, including equipment layouts and specifications, SLDs, schedules, etc.
  • Perform and/or manage the development of steady state, dynamic, and grid code compliance studies.
  • Perform and/or oversee the appropriate selection of electrical components, equipment, and materials.
  • Ensure that electrical engineering design packages meet functional, safety, regulatory, and performance requirements.
  • Ensure that engineering deliverables are aligned with respective project programmes and quality standards.
  • Ensure that electrical and civil design interfaces are fully aligned.
  • Resolve complex technical design issues.
  • Act as a primary electrical design authority.

Leadership

  • Manage and support in-house electrical design resources and third-party consultants/contractors.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and feedback.
  • Review and approve electrical design outputs.
  • Support the training and development of team members.
  • Chair project specific electrical design meetings.

Commercial, Tendering & Procurement Support

  • Provide technical input during the tendering process to develop preliminary electrical designs.
  • Support the development of tender pricing.
  • Define key equipment specifications in coordination with the Procurement Department.
  • Prepare subcontractor/vendor/supplier scopes of work and support subsequent tender evaluation and contract award.
  • Support Delivery and Commercial Departments regarding electrical design related CE/VO applications and approvals.

Document Management & Procore

  • Develop, maintain, and enforce compliance with electrical design processes and procedures.
  • Enforce compliance with electrical design related Document Control processes and procedures (document formatting, nomenclature, approval processes, etc.).
  • Enforce Procore utilisation by Electrical Design function and associated stakeholders.

Resource Planning & Coordination

  • Identify key internal and external electrical design resource requirements (personnel, subcontractors, vendors/suppliers).
  • Identify the necessary software and equipment required to deliver high-quality electrical design outputs.
  • Coordinate with Lead Design Engineer to ensure sufficient electrical design resource according to current workload and future pipeline.
  • Delegation of projects/tasks across the Electrical Design function.

Stakeholder Management and Reporting

Internal:

  • Provide regular departmental reporting and feedback to the Lead Design Engineer.
  • Conduct and record periodic performance reviews with direct reports.
  • Manage design interfaces between Electrical and Civil disciplines in coordination with Senior Civil Design Engineer(s).
  • Coordinate with, and support, Commercial, Procurement, and Tendering Departments.

External:

  • Develop relationships with subcontractors/vendors/suppliers.
  • Lead the development of subcontractor/vendor/supplier scopes of work.
  • Support resolution of electrical design related escalations.

Preferred Qualifications / Capabilities

  • Electrical balance of plant design skills, with exposure to civil and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with electrical system modelling software (DigSilent, PSCAD, or similar) and the associated system study deliverables (load flow, short circuit, reactive power, energization, cable sizing, etc.).
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (preferred).
  • Experience with MS Project, Excel, and Word.
  • Knowledge of UK Grid Code and compliance.
  • Knowledge of applicable UK design standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of UK network operator standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of CDM Principal Designer and Principal Contractors roles and duties.
  • Strong project management/delivery skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Full driving licence and ability to drive to project site locations UK-wide, if necessary.
