Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Industrial Power Systems
Location: London
Type: On-site
Salary: £100-140K + equity
A well-funded UK deeptech hardware startup ($50M raised, ~50 people, roughly 90% engineering) is scaling a modular industrial process platform from megawatt to multi-megawatt scale. Off-grid renewable power, hydrogen present in the process, and a design philosophy built around lowest-cost production rather than peak efficiency.
They need someone to own the AC power architecture as the company scales toward high-volume unit production. This is a ground-up build, not a maintenance role, in an environment where every design gets challenged on cost and manufacturability.

What you'll own:
- Full AC power architecture: conversion, distribution, balance of plant, optimised for cost and manufacturability at megawatt scale
- Power schematics, protection strategy, cable sizing, panel design
- Safety architecture: HAZOPs, HAZIDs, FMEAs, IEC 61508 compliance in a hydrogen-present environment
- Machinery Directive / LVD panel certification (CE/UKCA)
- Mentoring junior engineers as the team grows
You'll have:
- 5+ years in industrial electrical design: power systems, process plants, or industrial machinery
- Hands-on IEC 61508 and hazardous-area design experience (ATEX a strong plus)
- Comfort designing for cost over elegance, and for a company that moves fast
