The Role
Reporting to the Design Manager, the Senior Electrical Design Engineer will:
- Lead in a one-team culture while developing their own skills and expertise
- Co-ordinate the design team to deliver project outputs across a portfolio of water and wastewater treatment projects
This position requires a proven leader with:
- Commitment to excellence in Health & Safety (H&S) and compliance with CDM (Construction Design & Management) Regulations
- In-depth knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, pumping systems, and interconnectivity
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with engineering disciplines and clients
- Ability to produce clear and concise electrical design deliverables across all project stages
- Project management capabilities and experience leading teams
- Willingness to contribute to technical knowledge networks and stay updated on emerging solutions
- Flexibility to travel within the UK (including NI) and Ireland (where our HQ is based)

Main Duties & Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Reporting directly to the Design Manager as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for delivering water, wastewater, and process treatment plant projects
- Supporting electrical design from site surveys, optioneering, feasibility studies, detailed design, to tender pricing
- Developing procurement specifications, cable calculations, and detailed design drawings
- Project-managing third-party designs and assisting installation and commissioning teams
- Liaising with clients and subcontractors
- Ensuring adherence to Design, HSE, environmental, and sustainability standards
- Monitoring and updating design delivery performance and Master Information Documents (MIDP)
- Coordinating with Mechanical and Civil/Structural Designers
Additional key tasks include:
- Developing business cases and recruitment strategies for company expansion
- Providing mentorship and guidance to junior engineers
- Supporting site teams with robust leadership
- Contributing to professional development and career growth

Knowledge, Experience & Skills
Essential Requirements
- Chartered or Incorporated Member of the IET with extensive experience in water/wastewater or infrastructure design
- Knowledge of CDM 2015 (Designer and Principal Designer duties)
- Experience in design quality control, programming, and budget management
- Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams with clear communication skills
- Proven ability to mentor and develop junior staff
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving ability
- Full driving licence
Desirable
- Experience with Thames/Yorkshire Water’s electrical design standards
- Commercial experience in infrastructure projects
- Experience working with SAP 2000, AutoCAD, or other design software
- Commitment to continuous professional development
