Senior Electrical Design Manager
Job Title: Senior Electrical Design Manager Location: HM Naval Base, Portsmouth (HMNBP) Service Area: Design Management Hours of Work: 37 hours per week Salary: £55,000 to £65,000
What you will be doing:
As the Senior Electrical Design Manager, you will be responsible for delivery of projects from inception to completion through the development of the RIBA design stages. You will provide effective design solutions through the interpretation of design briefs, using your discipline expertise to deliver on medium-sized complex projects.
Other responsibilities will include: Work under the direction of the Principal Electrical Design Manager, managing design tasks, priorities, and programme delivery Develop client requirements into detailed Statements of Requirements (SOR), covering performance, standards, testing, and acceptance criteria Produce Low Voltage calculations (Amtech) and support High Voltage analysis (ETAP), alongside lighting design (Relux/Dialux) Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary internal and external design teams Manage the design process, ensuring feasibility, compliance with regulations, and alignment with client and environmental objectives (e.g. Net Zero Carbon) Provide technical guidance and advice to clients throughout the design lifecycle Review and assure subcontractor designs for compliance with specifications, standards, and legislation Oversee design risk assessments, safety documentation, and support SHE reviews of supplier RAMS Ensure high-quality project handover, including PPM review and agreement with maintenance teams Prepare Safe to Operate documentation for approval by senior engineering stakeholders Chair internal design reviews and support project managers and procurement in tender and design development activities Ensure all work complies with internal processes and the Joint Management System
What you will bring:
A Degree and/or an HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering An Incorporated Engineer and/or working towards Chartered Engineer status Familiarity with electrical systems such as: High Voltage Systems up to 33kV Building systems including LV Distribution, lighting, small power, CHP, PV, EV Experience and good knowledge of the full engineering lifecycle from inception to in-service Knowledge of Scada systems networks would be beneficial but not essential Knowledge of all engineering, procurement, and construction aspects of delivering major projects. Ability to work directly with the client without direct management supervision and instruction Logical thinking and working in an ordered fashion Experience mentoring junior engineers

About you:
Can be relied on to consistently deliver work, able to solve project/ design issues themselves but escalates and seeks help when unexpected challenges or blockers emerge. Works confidently with other departments and able to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical colleagues. Able to mentor other engineers, particularly those less experienced. Enthusiastically engages with their team, instilling a positive and inclusive environment for all to work within. Follows and champions quality engineering processes, including the design review process.
