The Role
SSE Renewables has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering Team, supporting the delivery of some of the largest and most ambitious offshore wind projects across the UK and Europe.
As a key member of the team, you’ll play a critical role in shaping and delivering major renewable generation projects across both development and construction phases. Working at the forefront of the energy transition, you’ll be responsible for electrical engineering deliverables spanning the full project lifecycle—from early-stage electrical system design through to offshore and onshore substations, grid connection infrastructure, power system studies, and grid compliance processes.
This is an opportunity to contribute to an industry-leading offshore wind development (Berwick Bank Wind Farm), helping drive innovation, sustainability, and technical excellence across our growing portfolio.
You’ll champion value and innovation within the team, identifying and implementing new technologies, engineering solutions, and best practices that improve asset performance, optimise project delivery, and reduce lifecycle costs.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver electrical engineering design activities for Berwick Bank Wind Farm, including:
- Developing and managing electrical contract documentation (substation and electrical balance of plant specifications, scopes, and Works Information)
- Preparing, reviewing, and updating technical specifications for substations and associated electrical equipment
- Ensuring compliance through contractor and supplier design reviews
- Support successful project delivery by attending Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) for major substation components and electrical systems across complex offshore developments
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, external stakeholders, and supply chain partners to coordinate engineering activities and support project execution
- Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and engineering best practice within the Electrical Engineering function

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
