Waterman Group is a multidisciplinary consultancy delivering engineering, environmental, and infrastructure solutions across the UK and internationally. Our Building Services team works on a diverse portfolio of projects across multiple sectors, providing high-quality, sustainable, and innovative engineering design.

Due to continued growth, our Leeds Building Services team is looking to appoint a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to support the delivery of major projects across sectors including industrial, commercial office developments, and education.

The Role

As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality electrical building services design across a range of major projects. You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, supporting the development of junior engineers while contributing directly to client relationships and project delivery.

This role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects while helping shape the growth of the Leeds team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical design of building services systems from concept through to detailed design and construction stages.
  • Deliver electrical design for projects across sectors such as industrial facilities, commercial office developments, and education buildings.
  • Produce and review technical calculations, specifications, reports, and drawings.
  • Design and coordinate systems including power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, data/communications, and building services infrastructure.
  • Work collaboratively with mechanical engineers, structural engineers, architects, and contractors to deliver coordinated project solutions.
  • Support the mentoring and development of junior engineers and technicians within the team.
  • Attend client meetings, design team meetings, and site visits.
  • Contribute to technical excellence, innovation, and sustainable design solutions across projects.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience delivering electrical design within the building services sector.
  • Experience working across sectors such as commercial offices, industrial facilities, or education projects.
  • Strong knowledge of UK building regulations and electrical design standards.
  • Experience using design software such as Amtech, Dialux, Relux, or similar.
  • Familiarity with Revit / BIM environments would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Working towards or already achieved professional chartership (e.g., CEng) would be desirable.
