Senior Electrical Engineer
As a Senior Electrical Engineer within Foreship UK, you will provide technical leadership in the engineering, integration and verification of marine electrical and power systems across a wide range of vessel types. Your work will enhance vessel performance, ensure compliance with class and flag requirements, and support the delivery of technically robust, safe and efficient engineering solutions.
Based out of our Southampton (HQ), Leatherhead or Chippenham, Foreship UK operates a hybrid working model, though you will be required to travel or shipboard across the UK and internationally occasionally.
Responsibilities:
- Apply electrical engineering expertise ensuring that vessel electrical and power systems are designed, integrated and verified in a way that shipyards, clients and onboard teams can use immediately. You will take technical ownership of electrical deliverables across concept, basic and detailed design, ensuring that calculations, schematics, protection philosophies, load analyses and system integration decisions are compliant with class and flag requirements.
- Lead the design, engineering and integration of ship electrical and power systems across concept, basic and detailed design stages.
- Verify system performance and compliance through calculations, modelling, review of vendor information and cross-discipline coordination.
- Ensure adherence to class, flag and relevant standards while supporting technical submissions and approval processes.
- Provide senior-level electrical engineering oversight during newbuild, retrofit and conversion projects, including system integration with machinery, automation, energy and sustainability technologies.
- Contribute to project schedules, risk assessments, design reviews and quality governance processes.
- Support the development of electrical engineering capability within Foreship UK, including mentoring of less-experienced engineers and knowledge-sharing.
- Engage with clients, shipyards, suppliers and regulatory stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve issues and maintain strong technical relationships.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
