Senior Electrical Estimator

Leading Mechanical & Electrical organisation in Sheffield require a Senior Electrical Estimator to play a key role within their Pre-Construction team, taking responsibility for the preparation, coordination and submission of accurate, competitive and commercially robust electrical tenders across a diverse range of sectors.
Working closely with the wide team, the role will support the successful acquisition of new business by delivering technically compliant, commercially viable tender submissions.
The Senior Electrical Estimator will also contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating processes, provide technical guidance to junior estimators, identify value engineering opportunities and support the ongoing development of the Pre-Construction function.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and competitive electrical estimates from first principles for projects across commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, residential and public sector markets.
- Review tender documentation including drawings, specifications, Employer's Requirements and contract documentation to fully understand project scope and requirements.
- Produce detailed cost plans, pricing schedules and tender submissions in accordance with company procedures and client requirements.
- Evaluate project risks and opportunities throughout the tender process and present findings during tender adjudication meetings.
- Identify and develop value engineering opportunities that improve commercial outcomes whilst maintaining compliance with project specifications.
- Obtain, analyse and negotiate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to achieve the most competitive commercial position.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors to support successful tender delivery and future opportunities.
- Attend pre-tender meetings, site surveys, client meetings and tender interviews where required.
- Support the handover of secured projects to the operational and commercial teams, ensuring all tender information is communicated effectively.
- Maintain accurate estimating databases, supplier pricing information and historical cost records.
- Support the development and mentoring of Estimators and Trainee Estimators across the business.
- Work collaboratively with Design, Commercial, Procurement and Operations teams throughout the pre-construction process.
- Keep up to date with industry legislation, Building Regulations, British Standards, electrical technologies and market conditions.
- Promote continuous improvement within the estimating function through innovation, process development and lessons learned.
- Ensure all estimating activities comply with the company’s Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety Management Systems, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Carry out any other duties reasonably required within the scope of the role.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

- HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience estimating electrical building services projects.
- Strong understanding of electrical building services systems and current industry standards.
- Excellent knowledge of construction tendering processes, procurement routes and commercial principles.
- Experience pricing projects across multiple sectors including commercial, healthcare, education, industrial and public sector.
- Strong understanding of Building Regulations, British Standards and relevant electrical legislation.
- Experience using estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent numerical, analytical and commercial skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to prioritise multiple tenders whilst consistently meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work independently whilst supporting wider team objectives.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Building Services Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Professional membership of IET, CIBSE or equivalent.
- Experience using BIM and digital design platforms during pre-construction.
- Knowledge of renewable technologies, decarbonisation projects and sustainable building design.
- Experience mentoring junior estimators.
- SMSTS, IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- Knowledge of NEC and JCT forms of contract.
