Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Estimator to lead our estimating function and play a key role in the next stage of our expansion.
Key Purpose of the Role: Serconnect is continuing to expand, and this is a pivotal leadership role within the business.
As our Senior Electrical Estimator, you will take ownership of the estimating function, leading the preparation of accurate, commercially competitive quotations and tenders while helping shape the future growth of the department.
Working closely with the Business Development, Commercial, Design, Delivery, and Procurement teams, you will manage the estimating process from initial enquiry through to successful handover into design and project delivery. You will play a key role in maintaining high-quality tender submissions, developing estimating best practice, and improving commercial performance across the business.
The role will primarily focus on 11kV and 33kV contestable connections and private networks, with EHV (33kV–132kV) experience highly desirable as Serconnect continues to expand its capabilities.
Projects will span a broad range of sectors including:
- Generation
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- EV Charging Infrastructure
- Industrial & Commercial (I&C)
- Private Networks
- Data Centres
- Utility Infrastructure
- Operations and Maintenance

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Ownership
- Lead and manage the estimating function across the business.
- Take ownership of all estimating activities from enquiry through to project handover.
- Develop and continually improve estimating procedures, templates, and commercial controls.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop an estimating team as Serconnect grows.
- Establish estimating best practice and ensure consistency across all tender submissions.
- Drive continuous improvement of estimating systems, processes, and commercial performance.
- Support the senior leadership team with commercial strategy and business planning.
- Ensure estimating activities align with company objectives and growth plans.
Projects, Bids & Commercial
- Prepare accurate, competitive quotations and tenders for electrical infrastructure projects across the UK.
- Estimate Contestable Connection, Private Networks, and Operations and Maintenance Projects from 11kV through to 33kV, with opportunities to support 33kV–132kV (EHV) projects.
- Produce tenders across a variety of sectors including Generation, BESS, EV Charging, Industrial & Commercial developments, Private Networks, and Utility Infrastructure.
- Review client specifications, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Undertake site visits where required to validate project scope.
- Develop detailed cost estimates covering:
- Labour
- Materials
- Plant and equipment
- Civil works
- Cable installation
- Substations
- Protection and control
- Commissioning
- Traffic management
- Subcontract packages
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontract quotations.
- Develop strategic relationships with manufacturers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Identify value engineering opportunities to improve project competitiveness.
- Assess commercial and technical risks and ensure appropriate allowances are included.
- Monitor market trends including labour costs, material pricing, and supply chain risks.
- Ensure all tenders comply with client specifications, industry standards, and company procedures.
- Prepare quality submissions and supporting tender documentation.
- Present bids internally and externally where required.
- Support post-tender negotiations with customers.
- Analyse unsuccessful tenders and identify opportunities to improve future success rates.
- Oversee projects where required to ensure costs remain aligned with tender forecasts.
- Maintain accurate estimating records and utilize estimating software effectively.

Customer and Business Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers.
- Support Business Development by attending customer meetings and site visits.
- Assist with bid qualification and tender strategy.
- Understand customer requirements and develop commercially viable solutions.
- Work collaboratively with DNOs, IDNOs, developers, consultants, EPC contractors, and end users.
- Support the continued growth of Serconnect into new sectors and higher voltage markets.
- Represent Serconnect professionally at customer meetings and industry events where appropriate.
Collaboration
- Work closely with Design Engineers to develop practical and buildable solutions.
- Liaise with Procurement to secure best-value supply chain pricing.
- Work with Project Managers to ensure smooth project handovers.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Operations teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Share commercial and technical knowledge across the business.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across estimating, engineering, and project delivery.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Essential
- Significant estimating experience within the electrical utility, ICP, or power infrastructure sector.
- Proven experience estimating 11kV and 33kV electrical infrastructure projects.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of construction contracts.
- Excellent understanding of contestable electrical connections.
- Proven commercially minded with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and network schematics.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proven experience of building strong and collaborative relationships with both internal and external clients and suppliers counterparts.
- Proven experience of establishing key aspects associated with client requirements, providing quotations, liaising with internal departments, and submitting final overview of project ability to the client.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels.
- Proven experience of establishing strategic and operational partnerships.
- Proficient user of Microsoft tools and other appropriate software packages.
- Proven ability to take ownership and accountability for their work.
- Demonstrable leadership skills with the ability to coach and/or mentor a team.
- Proven ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced growing business.
- Demonstrates the ability to work in a multi-task environment.
- Can demonstrate a desire to build the estimating function.
- Can demonstrate a proactive, organized, and solution-focused mindset.
- Proven ability of developing data-driven reports.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Experience estimating 33kV–132kV (EHV) infrastructure.
- Previous experience working within an ICP, DNO, IDNO, or EPC contractor.
- Experience within Generation, Battery Storage, EV Charging, or Industrial & Commercial sectors.
- Knowledge of Protection & Control systems.
- Experience of private networks and embedded generation.
- Experience leading or mentoring an estimating team.
- Knowledge of utility procurement frameworks.
Salary: £50,000 - £70,000 (Depending on experience)
Location: Great Harwood, Blackburn, Lancashire
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00-17:00, 40 hours per week
