Senior Electrical Project Engineer Location: Inchinnan, Glasgow (with travel as required) Type: Permanent

About The Role
The Senior Electrical Project Engineer will provide integral engineering design solutions and lifecycle support for JFD’s product range. Responsibilities will include:
- New product development: Engineering design and compliance for new systems to meet client or internal specifications.
- Existing product support: Upgrading, maintenance, and modifications of current equipment in the field.
- Technical input & queries: Offering engineering analyses and solutions for new or existing projects.
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Provide engineering design input for new and amended systems/products.
- Assess and resolve technical queries related to JFD’s product range.
- Collaborate with internal teams (sales, supply chain, production) to deliver optimum technical solutions.
- Manage component and material selection, create part numbers and bills of materials (BOMs).

Documentation & Compliance
- Develop technical documentation, including:
- Specifications, proposals, assembly instructions
- Test procedures, certification reports
- Manufacturing drawings and related documentation
- Ensure compliance with internal/external standards and regulations (e.g., industrial safety, defence/marine specs).
Authority & Accountability
- Serve as the discipline technical approver for JFD engineering outputs (drawings, documentation).
- Drive team engagement and foster a diverse, high-performing environment.
Leadership & Development
- Applicable to selected candidates: Line management responsibilities:
- Conduct performance appraisals
- Allocate/delegate engineering tasks
- Develop and mentor teams via competency frameworks, training plans

- Commitment to cost-effective, high-quality solutions within deadlines.
Technical Skills
- Proven competence in electrical and electronics engineering.
- Ability to produce engineering design calculations.
- Programming experience required: IEC 61131 languages (Structured Text, CODESYS platform).
- CAD/design tools proficiency for electrical schematics/analysis.

Specific Experience
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508 in critical applications).
- Preference for candidates with project/product design experience, notably in DC systems.
- Experience with:
- Cable/penetrator selection
- HV/LV electrical system design and commissioning calculations
- Power distribution systems (load/protection analysis).
- Familiarity with traction battery systems (up to 150 kWh) selection/specification.
- EMC compliance in electrical system design.
- Previous roles in electrical or product engineering.
Technical Knowledge
- Practical experience of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems for documentation packaging.
- Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (or equivalent industry experience).
- Awareness of marine/defence standards (LR, DNV, DEFSTAN classifications).
