About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Electrical & Electronics Technician to join our technical team and help shape the future of quantum computing. This hands-on, senior position involves working in a multidisciplinary environment, blending advanced computing, engineering, and scientific research.

The ideal candidate will contribute to the build, integration, and development of our state-of-the-art quantum computing platforms, collaborating closely with engineers, scientists, and technicians across multiple disciplines. This role supports the deployment of new systems, upgrades to existing platforms, and ongoing research projects. The position demands a practical, skilled technician with strong electrical/electronic assembly expertise, a structured approach to problem-solving, and experience with highly complex technical equipment.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

As a Senior Technician, you will partner with our technicians and scientists to construct and commission the electrical and electronic components of our cutting-edge quantum systems. Additional responsibilities include drafting technical documentation and upholding a clean, safe, and organised lab/workshop environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assembly, integration, and testing of electrical and electronic subsystems in advanced computing and scientific equipment
  • Electrical wiring, cable preparation, connector assembly, and installation of low-voltage electrical systems
  • Assembly of precision mechanical and electronic components, including PCB-based assemblies
  • Diagnosing and resolving electrical/electronic faults during build, integration, and commissioning phases
  • Reviewing and applying engineering drawings, schematics, assembly instructions, and technical documentation
  • Creating and maintaining build records, procedures, and documentation
  • Supporting prototype development, system upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborating with mechanical, optics, software, and science teams to deliver integrated systems
  • Maintaining a safe, organised, and efficient lab/workshop environment and mentoring junior technicians as needed

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working in engineering, science, or technical environments
  • Proven expertise in electrical and electronic assembly, integration, and testing
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills with proficiency in standard test equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings, and documentation
  • Experience with high-precision, delicate, or complex component assembly and integration
  • Hands-on experience with electronic hardware, including PCB-based assemblies
  • Experience working in laboratory, workshop, manufacturing, or controlled technical settings

Additional desirable qualifications:

  • Familiarity with surface-mount and through-hole assembly/rework
  • Experience with scientific instrumentation, research hardware, or high-tech systems
  • Knowledge of vacuum systems, assemblies, or ultra-high-vacuum environments
  • Background supporting prototype development, commissioning, or low-volume manufacturing
  • Prior roles in research organisations, advanced manufacturing, tech companies, or start-ups

Relevant technical qualifications (e.g., degrees, diplomas) in electronics, electrical engineering, or engineering technology are advantageous but not mandatory.
