Senior Embedded Linux / Edge Systems Engineer
We’re hiring at ThermAI.
I’m looking for a Senior Embedded Linux / Edge Systems Engineer to help build the software layer that sits between our hardware, firmware, telemetry, controls and cloud orchestration platform.
ThermAI is building a distributed compute platform using water-cooled GPU servers installed in homes. The heat generated by the servers is recovered and used for domestic heating and hot water.
This role is about making that work reliably in the real world.
You’ll be working on the edge controller layer above the low-level firmware, helping us collect telemetry, model hardware and thermal state, integrate with device firmware, support commissioning, build diagnostics and feed useful data back into the wider ThermAI platform.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
This is not a narrow firmware role. It is an edge/fleet systems role.
You might be a good fit if you have experience with:
- Embedded Linux on edge devices, gateways, SBCs or industrial controllers
- Telemetry, diagnostics and remote device management
- Modbus, RS485, serial comms, GPIO or similar field interfaces
- Integrating with firmware, microcontrollers or hardware systems
- Connected hardware, IoT fleets, robotics, energy systems, heat pumps, BMS or industrial equipment
- Building systems that need to keep working despite poor connectivity, messy data and real-world deployment conditions

UK preferred. Some travel to suppliers, test sites and pilot homes is likely.
Market-rate salary depending on experience. For the right early team member, equity/options may also be considered.
This is a rare opportunity to work at the physical edge of a new compute platform, connecting GPU compute, home heating, embedded controls and cloud orchestration into one deployable system.
