Senior Embedded Software Engineer
Location: East of England
Salary: Competitive, dependent upon experience
Newman Stewart is partnering with a specialist technology business to recruit a Senior Embedded Software Engineer.
Our client develops sophisticated electronic and software-based solutions supporting complex technical applications. Operating at the intersection of embedded software, real-time systems and hardware integration, the organisation continues to evolve an established software platform supporting a portfolio of advanced products.
Job Summary
Operating within Linux environments, the Senior Embedded Software Engineer will contribute to both the structural design and detailed implementation of embedded software supporting complex real-time systems. Responsibilities include developing embedded applications, supporting software optimisation, debugging complex technical issues and contributing to the ongoing evolution of an established embedded software platform.
Working closely with software, hardware and system test engineers, the position supports the delivery of new functionality aligned with product development priorities whilst maintaining high standards of software quality, reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement robust real-time embedded software for Linux-based systems.
- Contribute to the structural design and detailed implementation of embedded software components.
- Develop multi-threaded and multi-process applications within Linux environments.
- Support the development and debugging of Linux device drivers and related system components.
- Investigate and resolve complex software issues across operating system, hardware and application boundaries.
- Collaborate with software, hardware and system test engineers to deliver new functionality aligned with product development priorities.
- Contribute to maintaining software quality, reliability and performance across an established product portfolio.
Experience & Background
The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in embedded C programming within Linux environments, together with a strong understanding of software development for resource-constrained embedded systems. Experience building multi-threaded and multi-process applications, developing and debugging Linux device drivers, and working within embedded Linux environments will also be important.
