About The Role

National Energy System Operator (NESO) recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Due to continuous growth, we are looking for SEP Senior Engagement Coordinator to join us. This role sits in the SEP Engagement Team. The team is responsible for the engagement and communications activities, which are integral to the development of NESO’s strategic energy plans. The SEP Engagement Team provides direct support to the RESP (regional energy strategic planning), SSEP (Strategic Spatial Energy Plan), and CSNP (Centralised Strategic Network Plan) teams.

As a SEP Senior Engagement Coordinator, you will own and drive complex engagement activity across defined programme areas, coordinating across teams and programmes, and identifying wider strategic engagement issues that require practical solutions. You will provide subject matter guidance to colleagues, shape engagement frameworks and toolkits within your remit, influence senior internal stakeholders, and support consistent, insight-led engagement across Strategic Energy Planning.

The role is home-based with some travel required. We will consider candidates from anywhere in Great Britain.

Key Accountabilities

You Will

  • Own and drive engagement plans, stakeholder maps and delivery schedules for defined programme areas, ensuring activity is proportionate, well-sequenced and aligned with wider SEP priorities.
  • Provide subject matter guidance to relationship managers and other colleagues, helping them apply good engagement practice, and use agreed channels effectively.
  • Influence senior internal stakeholders across Strategic Energy Planning, Corporate Affairs and Customer to adopt consistent engagement sequencing, messaging and stakeholder management approaches.
  • Ensure Salesforce and other engagement data are used consistently to record activity, identify insight, track actions and evidence how engagement has informed strategic outputs.
  • Identify wider engagement risks, dependencies or improvement opportunities and recommend proportionate solutions to managers and programme leads.
  • Produce regular insight-led reports on completed and planned engagement activity, highlighting strategic risks, stakeholder themes, decisions required and opportunities to improve alignment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About Us

At the National Energy System Operator (NESO), we play a vital role in tackling climate change and securing Great Britain's energy future. We already operate the world's fastest decarbonising electricity system and are working towards our ambition to run it carbon-free for a short period this year - provided the market supplies electricity exclusively from renewable sources. Alongside this, we provide expert advice to government on how to deliver a clean power system by 2030.

In autumn 2024, the Electricity System Operator (ESO) transitioned to become NESO - an independent, expert public corporation with a whole-system view across electricity, gas, and hydrogen. NESO operates independently and transparently, always acting in the best interests of all energy users.

Licensed and regulated by Ofgem, we make impartial decisions that balance sustainability, affordability and security. Our organisation is fully independent from government, the regulator and all commercial interests, with a clear focus on system-wide benefit, long term thinking and public value.

The time to deliver is now. Join the energy transformation and help shape the future.

Your energy. Our future. Together
