Senior Engineer
Senior Engineer – Renewable Electricity Schemes
Location: Cardiff, Glasgow, or London (with preference for candidates in Cardiff/Glasgow) Working Arrangement: Hybrid – approx. 1 day per week in the office (20% of work time)

Role Purpose We are recruiting a Senior Engineer to join Audit & Compliance within the Delivery and Schemes (D&S) directorate, where you’ll play a critical role in delivering renewable electricity schemes. Your expertise will support essential accreditation, compliance, and audit processes, ensuring schemes are delivered efficiently, and high-quality technical advice influences decisions across Ofgem.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Advisory & Policy Support
- Provide expert technical advice on:
- Participant applications for accreditation and amendments.
- Compliance investigations related to renewable electricity schemes.
- Contribute engineering insights to policy development and scheme reform to align with regulatory requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement & Training
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-technical stakeholders (e.g., policy teams, operations, compliance).
- Design and deliver technical training for large, diverse audiences, ensuring they understand engineering requirements for scheme delivery.

- Government departments (e.g., Department for Energy Security & Net Zero, GIAA).

- Scheme participants and certification bodies.
About Delivery and Schemes (D&S)
D&S administers renewable energy and social programmes worth £12 billion annually, essential for achieving net-zero goals and supporting vulnerable households. You’ll work in either the:
- Renewable Electricity Participant Compliance (REPC) team, or
- Renewable Electricity Operations team.
Your role ensures payments are fair, transparent, and compliant, reducing impacts on consumers and taxpayers.
Eligibility
To succeed in this ** gleichened position (ofgem), apply by demonstrating how you meet the following criteria within a 1250-word personal statement:
Essential Criteria
- 🎓 Degree-level education in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., electrical, environmental, renewable) or equivalent industry experience.
- 🌍 Relevant experience in electricity generation/power systems (e.g., commissioning, transmission, distribution, renewable energy).
- 📊 Strong analytical sills: ability to apply quantitative and qualitative analysis to complex issues.
- ✨ Proven track record of managing high-pressure engineering projects, maintaining deadlines.
- 🗣️ Exceptional communication skills: expertise in explaining technicalities to non-engineering audiences.

Desirable Criteria
- 🚀 Chartered Engineer status (progression track towards registration).
- ⚡ Experience in renewable energy generation and battery storage.
- 🏛️ Familiarity with UK government renewable electricity schemes (e.g., Renewables Obligation).
