Senior Engineer
We're looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Kier Design team based in Norfolk.
Location: Norfolk - with some agile working
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.
Salary: Starting from £51,000 per annum
Sector: Kier Design – Civil/Structural/MEICA

Join Kier Design's Structures & Geotechnical capability in Norwich and play a key role in delivering civil, structural and MEICA engineering services across a wide range of infrastructure projects. Working within our 750-strong in-house consultancy, you'll collaborate closely with construction, commercial and operational teams to deliver safe, buildable and efficient solutions across Temporary and Permanent Works for clients including Local Authorities, National Highways, Network Rail and major Water clients.
Are you…
- An experienced engineer able to lead complex Civil, Structural and MEICA services across Temporary and Permanent Works
- Confident delivering construction‑focused, buildable design solutions, with safety as the overriding priority
- Experienced in Permanent Works design across structures, highways, geotechnics and infrastructure
- Comfortable acting as Lead Designer, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and third‑party inputs
- Able to identify, manage and clearly communicate technical risk through design and construction
- A strong technical leader who can manage teams, develop people and drive high‑quality outcomes
Do you…
- Support tenders and bids, producing outline designs, feasibility studies and buildability‑led solutions
- Apply innovation and value engineering to improve safety, efficiency and commercial outcomes
- Review and approve third‑party designs, ensuring compliance with briefs, standards and Kier requirements
- Provide clear technical advice, supporting teams through problem‑solving and challenge
- Take ownership of quality, programme and budget, delivering in line with Kier QMS
- Build strong relationships through client engagement, site visits and project meetings

What will you be responsible for?
As a Senior Engineer, you'll be working within the Structures & Geotechnical team, supporting them in delivering construction-focused, buildable design solutions with safety as the overriding priority. Your day to day will include:
- Leading delivery of complex Civil, Structural and MEICA services across Temporary and Permanent Works, ensuring safe, buildable and compliant solutions
- Providing Design Management leadership, including acting as Lead Designer and coordinating multidisciplinary teams and third-party inputs
- Supporting tenders and bids through outline design, feasibility studies and buildability-led solutions, applying innovation and value engineering
- Reviewing and approving third-party designs, ensuring compliance with client briefs, standards and Kier requirements
- Providing technical leadership, identifying and managing technical risk, and supporting teams with expert guidance throughout design and construction
What are we looking for?

This role of Senior Engineer is great for you if:
- You're IEng (Incorporated Engineer) with a relevant professional institution (or completion of CEng IPD), or EngTech, or substantial equivalent experience
- You hold a full UK driving licence
- You have experience working to industry or client standards (e.g. rail, highways, water or infrastructure)
- You have knowledge of relevant design and assurance standards (e.g. Network Rail, DMRB, MCDHW, WIMES, Minimum Asset Standards) (desirable)
- You are experienced in water/wastewater processes and/or M&E design (hydraulics, pump sizing, pipework) (desirable)
