Senior Engineer
Senior Engineer – Infrastructure Team (Water Industry – AMP8 Framework)
About the Role
Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Engineer to join our growing Infrastructure team, responsible for delivering major water infrastructure projects in partnership with United Utilities, as part of the AMP8 Detailed Design and Build framework.
As our long-standing delivery partner, Murphy supports top-tier water clients across the UK and Ireland, including Thames Water, Severn Trent, Northern Ireland Water, Yorkshire Water, SES Water, Bristol Water, South East Water, and Uisce Éireann. Our team operates 25+ facilities under full DBOM contracts, ensuring reliable and quality-critical works in the water sector.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Team Management
- Work closely with a team of site engineers, ensuring safe, on-time, and within-budget delivery
- Oversee dimensional control, inspection testing, and record-keeping as per Inspection and Test Plans (ITP)
- Provide supervision and coordination of temporary works while maintaining high standards of quality
Technical & Design Collaboration
- Review and contribute to design development, collaborating with design partners and engineering disciplines
- Conduct constructability reviews during both design and delivery phases
- Raise technical queries following internal information management processes
- Escalate unresolved technical issues to Project Manager and Engineering Manager
Safety, Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Prepare and/or approve Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), establishing records management structures
- Develop safety documentation (including Risk Assessment & Method Statements (RAMS)) and ensure adherence to company safety and environmental policies
- Maintain non-conformance reporting, leading remedial action completion where necessary

Procurement & Operational Support
- Lead complex technical procurement, assessing materials risks and implementing controls
- Work with the procurement team and supply chain to ensure efficient deliveries
- Contribute to monthly programme updates and short-term planning
Mentorship & Stakeholder Engagement
- Provide line management and support the development of less experienced engineers
- Ensure all site personnel have clarity and appropriate information for their roles
- Articulate engineering concepts verbal and written to diverse stakeholder groups
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Civil Engineering qualification at Level 4 or above
- 7+ years’ relevant experience in civil engineering
- Strong preference for candidates with water industry civil engineering project experience
- Competent IT skills (Microsoft Suite proficiency)
Desirable Qualifications & Additional Skills
- Temporary Works Coordinator certification
- Designated Appointed Person for Lifting Operations certification
