About the role
Here at National Highways, we currently have an opportunity for a Senior Road Restraint Systems Engineer to join our team in the East. Within this role, you will be undertaking the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria and the designing of highway renewals and maintenance schemes.
This role will be based in our Bedford, Cambridge or Ipswich office.
Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.
- Leading and coordinating the activities and resources involved in the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.
- Monitoring the delivery of agreed early solutions and plans, liaising with the relevant teams to identify and/or rectify issues.
- To Identify, prepare briefs and support delivery of survey works that support the improvement and/or renewal of assets.
- Developing the technical briefs provided to the design and construction contractors for improvement and renewals work.
- Tasked with undertaking technical reviews of third party designs to ensure that they comply with standards, design briefs and Design for Maintenance Requirements.
- To support the development of more junior team members, either through coaching, mentoring or more formal line management arrangements.
About you
- A Chartered or Incorporated Engineer is desirable and a member of a relevant professional Body with appropriate experience is essential.
- Degree or HND in relevant discipline and appropriate experience, or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of asset condition assessment and degradation modelling and an understanding of the Value Management process or cost benefit analysis of schemes
- Strong knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highways network with experience in Pavement design.
- Good knowledge of CDM 2015
- Experience of working closely with other internal/external design teams, Contractors, Local Authorities, Stakeholders etc.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
