The Role

As a Senior Engineer within our Bridges and Civil Structures team, you’ll take on a leadership role in project delivery, balancing technical excellence, client management, and team mentoring. This isn’t just a design position—it’s an opportunity to grow, influence projects, and shape our industry’s future.

Reporting to the Bridges Team Leader, you will:

  • Drive the success of technically challenging bridge and civil infrastructure projects.
  • Take ownership of project outcomes and client relationships.
  • Mentor junior staff, fostering a culture of technical capability and continuous growth.
  • Apply your bridge engineering expertise to solve complex problems, whether for new construction or maintenance work.
  • Ensure delivery exceeds client expectations and aligns with sustainable best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and expert advice to project teams.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment in project development, balancing technical, commercial, and legal considerations.
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness of engineering project delivery, ensuring cost-effective, high-quality outcomes.
  • Maintain and extend a strong theoretical foundation in engineering technology and innovation.
  • Plan and communicate effectively, discussing ideas with confidence and competence.
  • Adhere to quality management systems and in-house standards.
  • Identify and manage design risks, implementing solutions that safeguard project integrity.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree: BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng (or equivalent) in Structural/Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Status: Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (or equivalent), meeting recognised accreditation standards.
  • Proven expertise in structural/bridge engineering, preferably with:
    • Experience leading large, complex projects (e.g., bridges, retaining walls) for both new build and maintenance work.
    • Hands-on knowledge of structural analysis, design, and construction techniques.
    • Supervision of engineering teams (typically around 5+ engineers) in high-stakes environments.
  • Portfolio of successful projects that demonstrate technical leadership, risk management, and client satisfaction.
