Senior Engineer – Discipline Lead (UK & Ireland)

This role is focused on leading engineering tasks across engineers, designers, graduates, and apprentices within a specific discipline, ensuring timely, cost-effective project delivery that meets client and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to design and integration projects, delivering against quality, budget, and timeline commitments while meeting client expectations
- Track project team performance against contractual and quality standards, implementing corrective action where needed
- Manage checking and approval processes to ensure compliance with client, project, and SYSTRA standards, including engineering designs and technical calculations
- Ensure project requirements are communicated clearly and effectively across the team
- Assume the role of Work Package Manager for small-to-medium projects
- Apply relevant technical standards and codes (e.g., Eurocodes) in discipline-specific work
- Support work-winning and marketing efforts to maximise opportunities for the team and business
- Implement safety and environmental policies throughout the design lifecycle, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation
- Contribute to business goals and improvement initiatives
- Perform other duties as required

Profile & Essential Skills
Professional Experience & Management
- Strong communication skills across multiple levels and stakeholders, explaining proposals, justifications, and conclusions effectively
- Desired: Experience in line management
- Desired: Familiarity with offshore production centre workflows
- Proficiency in multi-discipline project environments
- Demonstrable project planning, delivery, budget, and timescale management experience
- Act as Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (e.g., Network Rail projects) or equivalent for non-rail assignments

Technical Expertise
- Safety and compliance expertise: Application of safety standards and CDM (Construction Design and Management) regulations
- Civil engineering design: Application and knowledge-sharing of design principles, standards, and Eurocodes
- Construction & project delivery: Hands-on experience in construction-related markets, including design and build environments
- Work with contractors: Experience signalling, delivering, or coordinating with supply chain partners
- Desired: Rail sector experience and familiarity with Network Rail’s procedures and standards
Software Proficiency
- Technical drawing & analysis: AutoCAD, Autodesk Robot, Micro DRAIN, Tedds, IdeaStatica, Bentley Products
- BS EN Eurocodes application
Qualifications
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Structures, or Civil Environmental Engineering (or equivalent)
- Actively working towards CEng status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
