You will then use the results to advise on regulatory, performance and reliability performance of the system under test.
You will lead technicians and engineers to cohesively deliver tests and produce concise reports. You will be involved in the whole process including price compilation, planning, procedure/legislation research, issue of test instructions and data collection requirements, presentation of results and reporting across a wide range of projects, from smaller-scale, short-term projects to multi-year delivery of new fighting vehicle platforms.

- Liaison with the customer and test authorities to ensure test plans meet regulatory requirements.
- Build cross-functional relationships with your peers in other departments.
- Specify test facilities, sensors and DAQ equipment as appropriate.
- Analysis of test data, including making judgements on if systems are compliant or fit for purpose.
- Develop new processes and continuously improve existing processes, procedures, equipment or facilities.
- Provide off-site support in 3rd party test facilities as and when required.
- Make engineering judgements regarding the performance of the customer test vehicles and advise on areas of improvement.
- Write clear and concise test reports to document test activities and compile data packs as required.
- Explain and discuss test results with customers, including exploring potential areas of improvement.
- Develop safety cases and prepare risk assessments.
- Develop test capabilities within the military vehicle subject area.
- Design new test techniques and put forward novel solutions to existing problems.
- Bring an enthusiastic, can-do attitude and always strive to improve.
- Act in accordance with the code of conduct for UTAC group staff at all times.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
