Senior Engineer

Location: Cambuslang, Glasgow

Salary: From £55,000 + Excellent Benefits

What you’ll be doing

SP Energy Networks is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Project Engineer to join our Delivery team. This is a key leadership role responsible for delivering a range of operational, investment, maintenance, and customer connection projects across the electricity distribution network.

You will ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory, licence, and company requirements while maintaining high standards of customer service and operational performance. Working within a fast-paced environment, you will lead project delivery activities, provide technical and operational expertise, and manage a team of Project Engineers and Project Coordinators.

You will also play a significant role in supporting the delivery of our business plan, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring successful project outcomes across the network.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver operational, maintenance, fault response, customer connection, diversion, and capital investment projects across the electricity distribution network.
  • Support delivery of the district business plan through effective project and programme management.
  • Lead project delivery activities including operational engineering works, contract management, and project management.
  • Support safety document activities up to 33kV, including plant and protection commissioning.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget while meeting regulatory and business objectives.
  • Promote and maintain an exemplary safety culture, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, procedures, and company standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, local communities, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate robust communication activities to minimise disruption and deliver excellent customer outcomes.
  • Lead, mentor, and coach Project Engineers, Project Coordinators, and developing team members.
  • Manage and develop a team of up to five Project Engineers and Project Coordinators.
  • Ensure accurate project reporting and timely completion of project closure activities, including financial assurance requirements.
  • Manage project risks, opportunities, and resource requirements to support successful delivery.
  • Drive the implementation of Operational Excellence principles across all project activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven experience in project or programme management within an engineering or utility environment.
  • Extensive project delivery experience within an electrical networks business.
  • Strong understanding of electricity distribution networks and associated operational activities.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and their application within project environments.
  • Experience managing contractors, budgets, programmes, and project stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial, contractual, and regulatory awareness.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and people management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and make sound engineering and financial decisions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience using SAP and related project management systems.
  • Commitment to delivering high standards of safety, quality, and customer service.

Essential Requirements

  • HNC or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Substantial experience in a project delivery role.
  • Strong computer literacy and competency with SAP systems and processes.
  • Demonstrable experience leading teams and delivering successful projects.
