Senior Design Engineer – Protection and Control
Location: Cambuslang Salary: £55,000—£68,750 per annum, plus excellent benefits Working Arrangement: Flexible Hybrid

About the Role

In this critical role, you will design and deliver Protection and Control engineering solutions for UK transmission networks (132kV and above) supporting UK energy decarbonisation. You’ll provide engineering specifications, innovative solutions, and technical expertise from concept through project delivery while ensuring adherence to health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
Responsibilities
- Define protection and control and ancillary apparatus requirements, advising on construction and outage programmes where needed.
- Develop basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs for control and protection systems.
- Assess tender submissions and review control & protection design drawings and specifications.
- Ensure systems comply with current legislation, policies, and operational standards.
- Support project teams on technical queries related to control & protection.
- Oversee engineering documentation in line with established quality processes.
- Contribute to training needs assessments, developing technical training packages for new systems.
- Enforce health, safety, and quality standards in all operations.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver seamless end-to-end solutions.

Essential:
- Qualified engineer with degree-level educational background in an engineering discipline, backed by relevant industry experience.
- Chartered (CEng) or Near-chartered status preferred.
- Strong technical ability to analyse substation plant and component characteristics.
- Proven experience in a senior engineering role on projects involving voltages from 33kV to 400kV.
- Demonstrable interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder relationships skills.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of substation plants and operational efficiencies.
- Experience interpreting and applying protection and control standards.
