This role is an opportunity to advance your leadership career in a role that will help transform transport and travel in Salford.

You will be supporting Group Leaders with delivering a large, varied programme of schemes you can make a key contribution to achieving Salford’s vision of a truly integrated transport system within our city, linking seamlessly into the wider Greater Manchester network.

You will have a vital leadership role in support of a Highways Group Leader. We want you to:

  • Undertake feasibility studies, conceptual, preliminary and detailed design.
  • Prepare, manage, report and maintain project cost plans.
  • Manage a team of engineers and technicians, supervising junior members of the team, including programming and allocating work, assisting in training and development, setting goals and monitoring performance.
  • Support the Group Leader in arranging the procurement of highway improvement works through competitive tendering.
  • Supervise and monitor works on site.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, developers and their agents, elected members, senior officers and the public on projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant standards, regulations and legislation.
  • Set and work to personal deadlines and targets.

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related subject.
  • Qualified membership of a professional engineering institution or working towards this status.
  • Strong track record in the design, implementation, and supervision of engineering projects, with a focus on highway design.
  • Proven experience of managing and delivering feasibility studies, including preparing reports, cost estimates, investigating problems and identifying options.
  • A good understanding of all relevant standards, Codes of Practice, Health & Safety legislation and current relevant design methods.
  • Initiative and ingenuity in solving engineering problems.
  • The ability to deal appropriately and effectively with external organisations.
  • Experience of successfully managing junior staff.
  • Strong skills in AutoCAD software.
  • Full UK driving licence.
