Role: Senior Engineer – Platform Engineering (APIs)
As a Senior Engineer – Platform Engineering (APIs) you will be responsible for leading the evolution of our API ecosystem across Azure and Rackspace Kubernetes, integrating with core services in AWS and legacy Rackspace systems. This role will shape how we expose microservices, modernise integration patterns, and ensure secure, scalable, resilient API delivery.
What You Will Do
- Lead API platform engineering using Kong, Kafka and microservice patterns on Kubernetes.
- Design and optimise API gateways, event flows and service interactions across multi cloud stacks.
- Ensure reliability, observability and performance for business critical integrations.
- Partner with product and backend teams to enable new capabilities via secure, modern interfaces.
- Mentor engineers, set engineering standards and drive adoption of best practices

What You Will Need
- Strong experience with API gateway technologies and event streaming.
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes in Azure and hosted environments like Rackspace.
- Strong microservice engineering skills across networking, security, scaling and interoperability.
- Experience integrating cloud native systems with legacy backends across multi cloud.
- Solid engineering leadership and ability to set platform wide standards.
- Understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders
