Job Description
Purpose of the Role
To develop, implement, and maintain solutions that support the safeguarding of the bank’s systems and sensitive information.
Accountabilities
- Provision of subject matter expertise on security systems and engineering patterns.
- Development and implementation of protocols, algorithms, and software applications to protect sensitive data and systems.
- Management and protection of secrets, ensuring that they are securely generated, stored, and used.
- Execution of audits to monitor, identify, and assess vulnerabilities in the bank’s infrastructure/software and support the response to potential security breaches.
- Identification of advancements to support the innovation and adoption of new cryptographic technologies and techniques.
- Collaboration across the bank, including developers and security teams, to ensure that cryptographic solutions align with business objectives, security policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Development/Implementation and maintenance of Identity and Access Management solutions and systems.

OR for an individual contributor, they will:
- Lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments.
- Identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialization to complete assignments.
- Identify new directions for assignments and/or projects, identifying a combination of cross-functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
- Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
- Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
- Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
- Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organization sub-function.
- Collaborate with other areas of work, for business-aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
- Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practices (in other areas, teams, companies, etc.) to solve problems creatively and effectively.
- Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
- Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

Join us as a Senior Engineer at Barclays UK
Where you will develop, implement, and maintain solutions that safeguard the bank’s systems and sensitive information while supporting critical Run the Bank activities across the Business Works and Apigee Edge platforms. In this AVP-level role within the API Platform Team, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting technical services that enable key customer journeys and business operations, while also participating in an out-of-hours on-call rota for one week each month.

Required Skills
- TIBCO BusinessWorks Expertise (BW 5/6) Strong hands-on experience designing, building, and supporting integrations using TIBCO BusinessWorks, or potentially an alternative product (e.g., Mulesoft).
- Cloud & Container Platforms (AWS + Kubernetes) Solid experience deploying and running applications on AWS (e.g., ECS/EKS, networking, IAM, monitoring). Practical knowledge of containerization (Docker) and Kubernetes deployments, including CI/CD integration.
- DevOps & Agile Delivery (SAFe) Demonstrated experience working in a true DevOps model: build, deploy, support, and operate services end-to-end.
Highly Valued Skills
- Integration & Messaging Technologies Experience with messaging systems (e.g., EMS, Kafka, MQ).
- Observability & Production Support Experience with monitoring/logging tools (e.g., DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, CloudWatch). Strong incident management, root cause analysis, and production support practices.

This role is based in Edinburgh.
