The University and UIS

University Information Services (UIS) provides the digital infrastructure, business information and computing services at the heart of one of the world's top universities. The University of Cambridge has a bold ambition to use digitalisation to transform education and research, and UIS's team of developers, designers, testers, analysts and support staff is leading this exciting work.

The role

University Information Services (UIS) is seeking an experienced IT Senior Engineer for a 1-year fixed-term contract. This role will directly support multiple departments in the School of Physical Sciences (SPS), in consecutive 3 month projects focused on one department at a time, in closing specific compliance gaps with the Systems Management Policy (SMP), which is central to the University's cyber security strategy.

The post is a practical, delivery-focused position and will involve collaborating with local IT staff, researchers, and administrators. You will support the rollout of key technologies required to meet some of the compliance expectations of the SMP.

Successful candidates will have hands-on experience working with medium to large Linux server environments, alongside strong communication skills, excellent technical troubleshooting abilities, and a collaborative approach.

The role will be managed by UIS and based out of the Central Support Hub. The work will require the role-holder to be physically present in departments. The successful post holder will report to the Head of Infrastructure Service Development and Planning.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
