Senior Engineer (Traffic Engineering)

Senior Traffic Engineer – Lighting & Traffic Engineering Service (Permanent)

About the Role

Job Title & Background

BE PART OF A TEAM

We are seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to join the Lighting and Traffic Engineering service on a permanent basis.

Core Responsibilities

  • Form an integral part of the traffic engineering programme in Islington
  • Deliver diverse traffic schemes—including public realm, cycleway, liveable neighbourhood, and general traffic—through design, estimation, project management, and site supervision

Key Additional Roles

  • Lead and manage junior staff, providing line management responsibilities
  • Regularly liaise with:
    • Internal bodies (e.g. Council departments)
    • External stakeholders (e.g. contractors, utility companies, developers, police, residents, other organisations)
  • Collaborate closely with our term maintenance contractor to successfully execute a borough-wide programme of high-impact schemes

Work Context

  • Operate under the Traffic Manager and Principal Engineers
  • Play a crucial part in delivering Islington Council’s Traffic and Engineering programme
  • Enabled to drive the development of excellence in traffic engineering schemes
