You will play a key role in supporting Group Leaders with developing our pipeline and acting as the client to Salford’s delivery teams. We want you to:

  • Work to maintain and develop a pipeline of infrastructure projects in Salford and coordinate the development of bids for grant funding to support project delivery.
  • Support the Group Leader to plan, monitor and review the team’s capital programme of transport projects, taking responsibility for project budgets, programme and pipeline, ensuring appropriate governance.
  • Work with senior leaders of the technical team to commission the design, delivery and development of infrastructure improvements across the city.
  • Provide support with the development and management of strategic highways policy and strategy.
  • Work closely with TfGM to ensure the successful delivery of infrastructure projects. Work with officers from neighbouring districts to co-ordinate infrastructure work across boundaries.
  • Manage junior team members and/or consultants on the development and delivery of our infrastructure programme.
  • Work closely with the wider teams at Salford, such as the Development and Investment teams, to ensure the infrastructure programme helps to drive our growth aspirations for Salford.
  • Represent Salford at a Greater Manchester level to collaborate with key partners. Work with TfGM to influence Greater Manchester strategy documents.
  • Liaise with elected members on strategy, planning, sign-off and delivery. Liaise with the public as required.

Your profile

Skills

We’re not looking for experience and expertise across every aspect of transport planning – the most important thing is that you have the core skills to hit the ground running in developing and maintaining projects. You will need to bring:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related subject;
  • Or a Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Civil Engineering or a related subject;
  • Or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject, with post-qualification experience in infrastructure programme or project management.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience in the development and delivery of infrastructure projects.
  • A proven record of project delivery.
  • The ability to deal appropriately and effectively with external organisations and statutory bodies.
  • Experience of effective liaison with stakeholders and the public, including elected Members and senior officers.
  • Experience of managing junior staff as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Adaptability in the face of changing deadlines or requirements.
